Of course it is possible, but I think it might because of the classic and new catchy songs. The sets aren't that bad. They are actually pretty good from what I've seen. The star line-up for the OBC is great and Sierra will be absloutely fabulous in her Broadway debut. How long do you think that she'd want to do the show for... even if it could be longer than her contract states.
This musical has some of the qualities that "Beauty" had. I think it will do well. It could possibly be Disney's best musical.
What do you think??

I think that regardless of how good the show is t'll un much longer the Tarzan. Mermaid is such a more bankable title then Tarzan. I mean it has the Disney Princess factor and that will draw in a tonof people for many years to come.
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu
i def want to see this show and i wont comment until it opens. i agree it will last longer than tarzan and the disney princess thing. while i walked by the theatre about 2-3 weeks ago i did see some of the sets going in and they looked great.
belle and ariel are the top of disney princess list for all the girls/young ladies. i am a 21 yr old female and i belle/ariel are my top disney princess. i feel though it will have a good and nice run.
I agree with you 100% AvenueQResident. Though Beauty and the Beast ran an astounding 13 years on Broadway (and will live on in community and regional theatres) I still feel it wasn't a smart idea to close it. No one knows how well this will do, and honestly it could be a Tarzan or it could be a Beauty. We simply don't know, so end of my story
I agree that it WILL out run Tarzan, but I don't think it will outrun either Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King.
But I highly doubt it will be a flop...every little girl in the world loves the movie and will want to see it. It is a much more popular film than Tarzan...
No, I don't think it will. I'm guessing probably about 4 years...as with Wicked it's been the hot ticket for 4 years now and its becoming A BIT (not really at all but still a little possible better than last year and the year before) easier to get tickets. And I heard the underwater sets aren't creative at all. Also, I'm not a big fan of Disney on Broadway, with only one exception -- Beauty and the Beast. I feel like the creative team was good behind it and they didn't spend an outrageous amount of money on the sets or anyone.
And to be perfectly honest, other than Norm Lewis, I had no idea who ANYONE in this cast was, so that doesn't help. If they were going for that, they should have put someone famous to its biggest fan base, kids.

That makes no difference to the families and the tourists who fly in and drive in the see the show. they are seeing the show becuase of the title. not for who is playing Ariel. I'm sure that the bridge and tunnel crowd had no idea who Susan Egan and Terrance Mann were, either.

For that matter, I'm sure that most of the Broadway industry had no idea who Susan Egan was when Beauty and the Beast opened.
When BATB opened, Broadway was a very different place. BATB largely created the "family market" on Broadway. The difference now is that not only is Disney competing with itself (MARY POPPINS, LION KING) its also competing with other family friendly shows like WICKED, LEGALLY BLONDE, etc.
Disney will not have a new show with a run like BATB unless they are able to come up with a new show that has the buzz, excitement factor and reviews that THE LION KING received.
LITTLE MERMAID already has bad buzz on it. I think it will run about three years - based fairly soley on name recognition.
