I'm not talking about who deserves it. I would agree that Feliciano gave the most riveting performance of all the nominees, but SWEENEY is being viewed as a triumph of direction, concept and material. Outside of LuPone and Cerveris, the ensemble cast efforts haven't been much recognized.
Burstein and Dale have the advantages of being in shows that opened much more recently and with much "flashier" roles. Dale has the advantage of being a much loved veteran, but his show got panned.
If DROWSY sweeps, it will be very easy for voters to include Burstein in the winning streak. Think Cady Huffman in PRODUCERS over the much more deserving Kathleen Freeman.
