Based on what, though, Munk? Outside of this board, nobody is talking about his performance in SWEENEY.

I maintain he'll be the victim of the ensemble curse. It's half a miracle he even got nominated after being slighted by the other award groups.

I think it's safe to say Dale is the frontrunner. I think Burstein has a load of good will in the acting community. I do believe actors make up a large percentage of the Tony voting body, which would give him an edge.
Against Manoel would be his status as a Broadway newcomer. He gives a compelling performance that was obviously worthy of a nomination but I am not certain that he has the momentum to overtake either of these men.

Having seen, of those nominated, only Burstein and Felciano, with as much objectivity as I can have, I think Manoel deserves it *far* more. There are a lot of things in Burstein's performance that I took issue with, and the irony is that most of them are really not his fault, by rather things that are happening by virtue of the role. It's hard to really evaluate that kind of performance; and for me, it was harder to like.

You have to savor over the top to savor Danny!

Will the Tony voters appreciate his way heels over head over the top to savor Danny?

Will he be able to bring that Tony home to Becca so they can put it in the middle of their kitchen table and ooh and ahh over it?

I'm not talking about who deserves it. I would agree that Feliciano gave the most riveting performance of all the nominees, but SWEENEY is being viewed as a triumph of direction, concept and material. Outside of LuPone and Cerveris, the ensemble cast efforts haven't been much recognized.

Burstein and Dale have the advantages of being in shows that opened much more recently and with much "flashier" roles. Dale has the advantage of being a much loved veteran, but his show got panned.

If DROWSY sweeps, it will be very easy for voters to include Burstein in the winning streak. Think Cady Huffman in PRODUCERS over the much more deserving Kathleen Freeman.

I'm with MB on this one. But I think it's funny we're completely ignoring the possibility that the votes could be split enough for Dixon or Hoff to sneak in and take this. I recall Hoff being well-received critically.

I think there is a lot of support for Felciano. He's winning the BWW vote by a ton, he won the Munky's by a landslide, and we'll see what comes of the Broadway.com awards. I really hope he wins.

Cady Huffman's award DID belong to Freeman, but they were both "comedic" roles. How can you said that (and I'm not saying you, as in anyone on this board) Burstein deserves an award for being over the top and trying too hard to be funny, where Manoel's performance reaches a depth that is all too rare.

I'm still completely baffled by the response to Mr. Feliciano's performance (and SWEENEY in general, but that's another thread at another time).

He's very talented. But as I watched the show, I kept thinking "Where's Toby?" I've never had that thought at any of the other SWEENEY's I've seen.

I think Danny concocts just the right soupcon of absurdity.

It's easy to compare, Munky.

A dramatic role you might think of as a baked potato.

A satiric, comedic role is more like a banana split with three kinds of ice cream, hot fudge, caramel, pecans, whipped cream and a cherry.

So we know Robbiej's tony vote is going with the hottie factor and the BWW vote went with the fangirly faction...but what would the actual Tony voters be looking for here?
Frankly, I think this race is far more open for Burstein, Dale and Hoff than people here care to admit.

Yes. As you so quickly point out in others, that's the only possible thing I could have meant there.
Of course people are going to vote for a variety of reasons but I'd hardly credit the Manoel Felciano Appreciation Thread on Broadwayworld with giving him Tony momentum.
