alright, i've had this crazy idea for a thread for a while now, but millie has finally given me inspiration to create it.
a majority of the actors on broadway are VERY talented. many can play any part they want. some roles we can't picture them in while others we say they would be perfect for.
now, we see people take over roles as replacement. let's look at the chains of people who have played different characters. now, suspending reality, can you imagine them playing the same roles?
here's an example:
Idina originated Elphaba. Shoshana took over. Shoshana was an understudy for Tracy Turnblad. could you imagine Idina playing Tracy? or Marissa playing Elphaba?
What if Shoshana went into Dirty Rotten Scoundrels? Sherie Renee Scott originated Amneris, Idina was a replacement in that role, and Shoshana replaced Idina (as stated before). Could you picture Shoshana playing Christine Colgate?
just think back to different people who have played the same characters and connect. it's interesting what you come up with!

Can George Hearn play the emcee in cabaret?
He replaced Joel Grey in Wicked, and Joel was the emcee.
Can Brooke Shields play Fosca in Passion? She replaced Donna Murphy.
Can Phylicia Rashad play Mabel in Mack and Mabel. She replaced Bernadette Peters in Into the Woods.

Joel Grey was replaced by Ernie Sabella as Amos, so could Ernie Sabella be the wizard in Wicked? Or the emcee in Cabaret?
Christy Carlson Romano as Millie?
Christy played Belle, which Susan Egan originated. Susan was a replacement in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Side note: the answer to all of these so far is yes. These actors are working actors because they can do anything.
Can Carol Channing play Fosca?
Carol was Rosalind Russell's replacement in Wonderful Town (which Donna Murphy revived in 2003).
Let's go backwards...
Could Angela Landsbury play Evita?
Adam Pascal playing Chad
Adam originated Radames, Cheyenne Jackson played him at one point, then originated Chad in All Shook Up
Brooke Shields as Fosca and Phylicia Rashad as Mabel? Um, hehe, no.
Ana Gasteyer as Celie?
Saycon originated Celie in Atlanta. Saycon is the standby for Elphaba. Ana is Elphaba in Chicago.
Could Stubby Kaye have been in Ain't Misbehavin'?
Both he and Ken Page played Nicely Nicely Johnson.

Here's a good one:
Brooke Shields played Rizzo in GREASE, as did Rosie O'Donnell. Brooke also played Sally Bowles in CABARET - can you see Rosie playing Sally??? : )
Lilias White Played Grizabella. As did Betty Buckley. Could Betty Buckley play Effie White?
I saw John Cameron Mitchell play Peter Pan years ago in Denver. (He was great.) Cathy Rigby also plays Peter Pan. Could she play Hedwig?
Hmmm...maybe she can.

OOOOO!
Kerry Butler played Belle in BATB. So did Toni Braxton. Does this mean Toni can play Penny in Hairspray? I wont even ask if Kerry can be in Aida. LOL
LOL @ ihearttheatre... further yet which stereotypical boybander role would he be?

Could Anthony Rapp be in a boy band??
...Ohmygod. Don't use that kind of foul language around me. You must not use the phrases "Anthony Rapp" and "boy band" in the same sentence... *faints*
Haha, I'm kidding. But that is EXTREMELY frightening.
