Bravo Margo. When Emmie, Jackie, Joe sing that they are the children of Caroline Thibodeux, that really touched me.
Steve, "the line" made me gasp also and my jaw just dropped. It still gets me when I listen to it. It's almost as if you think "Did she really say that?!"
I love your posts, Margo. I learn so much from any post from you.
Thanks Margo for taking the time to write that. Now it makes a lot more sense.
Since I only saw it once -- and since my mind was clearly fatigued by the time we got to the end -- it all just went over my head. She could have been singing in Lithuanian for all the good it did me.
I look forward to seeing it again somewhere else. It truly is a remarkable work of art.
Also, the previous poster was right. It's closing because people weren't buying tickets. My comments about the show reflected my single viewing experience, not a critique of the show. I just know I left the theatre somewhat lost, unsure of what had just transpired.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who must have felt that way -- and I was proposing that as another reason why it didn't catch on. (Plus, as also mentioned above, it was categorized by the press as "serious" -- like medicine you need to take.)
It's Reality Theatre. The gay marriage musical that exposes everything. THE BIG VOICE: God or Merman?
I never saw Caroline---but I was considering getting the CD. Is it one of those shows that you'll like the music even if you never saw it. B/c I have a couple I bought having not seen the show, and I hardly listen to them.
It just occurs to me that last season I heard so much about Hairspray but very little about Urinetown, which I've heard was a much smaller show (please correct me if I'm wrong).
That's probably because Urinetown came out the year before Hairspray.
Ah well that makes sense. I was just trying to find a smaller musical with not as much press as a comparison. Oops. Thanks BlueWizard! Please folks dont hesitate to correct me. I really like it when i'm corrected b/c I absolutely hate putting an incorrect statement out there and I learn, which everyone needs to do at many points in their lives. :)
I think I like the first one better. I think.
CAOLINE closed because it sucks.
I guess you could say the same thing about AIDA.
(Which I liked. I'm just stirring your broth, bronx.)
lol, AIDA's not closing prematurely though. CATS closed and it's the best show in the world. lol
Hey, I love CATS, it's my favorite, but it's not the best musical in the world. Don't do that. That's what the Wiz-O-Maniacs do...
....is anyone else as disturbed as I am with these freakin pennies....????
Yes. Especially the bodiless Caroline on the penny.
lol, AIDA's not closing prematurely though.
By Disney standards it is.
Well the standards are CHANGING!!!! Don't mess with me when it comes to AIDA. AIDA is the best musical ever.
That last one is brilliant CATS, but I'd stick with the first one. Put them all in your fan photos though.
EDIT-I could've sworn they weren't there five minutes ago...

I couldn't help but get in on the coin thing. Except I think Caroline would be George Washington, don't you?
