I think it makes for a steamier dynamic when Lola is older than Joe.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

oh crap, just had a thought - if Gyllenhall is attached does that mean that his "girlfriend" Reese Witherspoon might possibly be Lola?

Why? Because boyfriends and girlfriends always have to do a movie together in Hollywood?

Why not add a few husbands complaining about their wives watching too much baseball?

Charlize Theron has great song and dance skills that have yet to be utilized on screen (Nicholas Hytner cast her to play Roxie when he was doing the film version of CHICAGO, but when he was scrapped as the director, so was she.)

I think she has all the sensuality, charm, beauty, and screen presence to nail a role like Lola, as well as the recognizable pedigree to go along with it.

Of the current crop of talent in Hollywood, she would be my first choice.

Whoa, I liked Carrey's version of "And I Am Telling You I Am Not Going." Especially the last note. And Larry's horrified reaction.

And I like his horrible version of "I Am The Walrus." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPkytVdy5Us

I can't understand the appeal of Jim Carrey. I want to say, yes what you do was funny when you were eight years old, but you are now a middle aged man. Act your age.

This is horrible, but I like Jim Carrey because he reminds me of me.

Luckily, I don't plan on going into acting professionally.

I could live with Beyonce, but it's gonna be Katie Holmes. Just tellin' ya.

still all about Gasteyer or Hathaway for Gloria and Cheno for Sister.

Chenoweth would be fantastic as Gloria, after all, she was this close to being cast as another annoying reporter-Mary Sunshine--why not cast her in this part? She'd be a hoot. My only issue with casting her as Gloria is that she doesn't have the big belty voice required for the part. She'd be hilarious as Sister too but she's too young for the part. I always thought Sister was close to Meg's age.

I think that Carrey would actually a very funny Applegate and Gyllenhaal will probably be fine. I think Katie Holmes would be a fantastic Lola, as long as it is not Beyonce.

I think the idea of Jaime Pressly as Lola is interesting. She's been wanting to do a movie musical for a while.

Rose McGowan could also be fun.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Amy Adams for Lola. She has the voice for it, and it would give her a chance to show some range and play something other than the ingenue. I wonder if she can dance...

I must be the only one who thinks Jenifer Lopez could do Lola.
Yeah I know, she has babies but she still can dance. ( and more importantly she hasn't done much since the babes and her price would be cheaper that Adams or Witherspoon)

I would say it's going to be Beyonce' and I ain't thrilled. It just seems very safe unimaginative casting. With quasi-rap video versions of her songs on TV.

Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lopez would be excellent casting.

So, Anne Hathaway was on the View this morning, and along with confirming that she'll be playing Judy Garland in an upcoming biopic, she also confirmed that she is in the works to star in an upcoming movie with Jake Gyllenhaal.
She didn't say what it was, but does anyone think that she could be playing Lola. Or maybe Gloria? She could make a great Gloria.

I am ready to be beaten to death for mentioning this...and it will more than likely never happen...

But Fergie might make a deccent Lola...if she has the acting chops. Her "Be Italian" in the Nine trailer aint half bad.

Just throwing her out there, as I think she has a more "seductive" quality than a lot of the names that are out there.

Anne Hathaway would make a great Gloria? Is that a joke? Anne is much too "fresh-looking" to play Gloria. You need someone a bit older and jaded for the role.

How about Allison Janney for Gloria? I know she may not want to do another musical at this point but Gloria only has the one song. I think she'd be great in the role.
