I gotta admit, she sounds way better than I thought she would. The country flavor in her voice works well for Maria's "folky" sound. And she can yodel purdy dang well!

I've never really doubted her vocal ability for the role. But there is sometimes a dead-eyed thing she does that both bores and unnerves me at the same time. But I will be watching with an open mind and open legs (I'm trying to turn the viewing party into a Salzburgian orgy!)

I like Carrie a lot as a singer. I worry about her acting chops for this role, but I wasn't worried vocally and this clip confirmed that. But this whole enterprise will be worth it just to hear Audra McDonald sing "Climb Ev'ry Mountain".

Uh ... no. Soul Surfer didn't register on my radar.

If audiences had judged Jessica Lange by her truly hideously bad performance in King Kong, she never would have had an acting career.

And King Kong was a (wild guess) probably better project than Soul Surfer.

Not bad. This teaser is the best out of all the ones NBC has released featuring Underwood. She's still shouty-sounding in certain phrases but the yodeling is pretty good.

Even on this Broadway site, people can't get passed Julie Andrews in the movie? I get that from non-Broadway aficionados who grew up on the film and can't see past it, but YOU guys? Come on.

MARY MARTIN ... she created the role on Broadway. The show was written for her. She won the Tony for it, beating out Ethel Merman in Gypsy, Carol Burnett in Once Upon a Mattress, Dolores Gray in Destry Rides Again, and Eileen Herlie in Take Me Along.

MARY MARTIN was Maria first.

MARY MARTIN.

She sang those songs first. In different keys. She didn't sing a high C at the end of Do Re Mi. She sang it her way. First.
