I don't think it's the cast that needed acting lessons, just try reading some of that book [and lyrics] and not laughing yourself off.

provocation, you contradict yourself. You suggest Natalie Weiss for Carrie.... then go on to say the cast needs to be strong, acting-wise. When has Weiss ever shown any indication she's a strong actress?

Natalie Weiss has an incredible voice which is what I attempting to point out. Carrie Manolakos CAN act and I think she'd be perfect.

She has an OK voice, but can't act and has no stage presenc. Plus, she has the worst diva reputation, which she got before she ever made it into anything big.

There's really no point to any of this if they can't figure out how to make a bucket of blood on a rafter pour down on Carrie's head. Dashing out and carefully Jackson Pollocking her while carefully avoiding the head and body mics really won't help if they're trying to avoid unintended laughs this time.

Agreed. Phenomenal voice, too.

Surely they have water proof mic heads NOW right?

Understudying in the Wicked tour. That's big for her. Probably as big as she will get.

What about Dee Ravioli?

I meant to say her diva attitude makes producers stay away from her.
Yes, I think she was a Wicked standby, but I don't think she ever performed before she threw a hissy fit and got kicked out.

Weiss was NOT a stand-by; she was an understudy on the Wicked 2nd National Tour for Elphaba. Her contract was only six weeks while Anne Brummel was out, injured. She knew very well there was an extremely slim chance that she would go on as Elphaba and, thus, never did go on.
I know, right?

Just because I'm a fan does not make me the person I am talking about. If that were the case, I'd be Natalie Weiss, Carrie Manolakos, Haven Burton and Shoshana Bean. Oh, and Patti Lupone. That joke is getting quite old, Blaxx.

That's an interesting problem, but not an insurmountable one. They should have been able to figure out how to do it the first time around. I mean, if they were dropping giant chandeliers and landing helicopters around the time this was produced, then someone should have been able to figure how to dump a bucket of blood from the rafters.
If it was a mic issue then they should have just de-miced her at some point before the blood dropped and pre-recorded her lines.

How about Anna Kendrick? And she'll likely be an Oscar nominee in March for UP IN THE AIR...

To Mazzie's defense she belted and growled her way through "I Hate Men," in Kiss Me Kate, and then took over for Aldonza, and belted and growled through her numbers in Man of La Mancha...so we'll see.

She also made the same angry face throughout Kiss Me Kate.
I wonder if the book says anything regarding Carrie's ethnic background, could she be played with an African American Carrie & mother?
I think that a dramatic twist in casting could pull away focus from the original, as I'm sure everyone will be waiting to see why it was such a flop.
I could see Tonya Pinkins playing Mrs. White!

Well the characters are obviously white in the book. Margaret and Carrie are both described as almost 'colorless' in hair and skin tone. Their last name is of course White too, so I imagine King was trying to say something there about something.
I don't see any reason why Carrie and her mother couldn't be black, although obviously it would have to be handled very carefully so that the piece didn't become a metaphor for race or racism.
There also isn't really any reason why Sue or Chris couldn't be black. I think the point (in the book at least) is that its a normal American high school.
