Well, from what I've been told by people working on and in this project (and I'll be completely embarrassed if I end up being wrong)...Marin Mazzie is mother and Sutton Foster is Miss Gardner. I've double checked this information. So, I'm assuming Riedel has, once again, leaked out false information. And since when was Marin Mazzie a Tony winner?

Not only is Marin not a Tony-winnner, but why would she play the gym teacher?

I was just thinking today that Jenn Damiano would be a good Carrie.
Sounds like a solid (if not obvious) choice.

How much of a part does Miss Gardner have really? I'm not familiar at all with any of the show.

Damiano is a great choice for Carrie. I'm suprised that Foster is taking this smaller role, but then again Inga wasn't exactly a huge part either, and Drowsy Chaperone was an ensemble piece.
Mazzie is a poor choice for Margaret White, I don't think her voice has the grit that Buckley's had.
Alice Ripley is perfect on the other hand. When I listen to 'I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance' all I can see is Ripley.
All this Carrie news has made me a little obsessed over it. Can't wait to hear how this reading goes.

I'm thinking playing a smaller role maybe is maybe because Sutton was going to take a break and didn't? So it'll be easier and a bit more relaxing for her instead of belting and tapping his tits off in almost every number.

Called it! When the news broke about the reading the first name that popped to me was Jenn's.

I've only heard/seen Mazzie in PASSION and heard her in the Ragtime OBC album.....strange to hear her tackle this role. Maybe she'll be awesome/different though.

First of all, Sutton has said she would like to do ensemble pieces, which is probably one of the reasons why she did Drowsy Chaperone.
Why does every role a performer take have to be big? I think it is great Sutton is doing something a little different than what she usually does. I am not really surprised that she would want to do something like this, considering she wants to take a break. Not to mention, this is only a reading and not a full-blown production.
