I'm actually sitting here writing up a Christmas wish list deal, wishing that there was some sort of miracle La Cage aux Folles revival recordng I could ask for.
DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES and LESTAT, although short lived on stage should have been recorded. The huge amounts of money spent on those two shows should have included studio time for a CD.
It seems that just about every show I have seen this year, whether early in the run or not, highly successful or not, either has a CD (WEDDING SINGER, SHOUT, THE MUSICAL, ETC.) or plans for one (HIGH FIDELITY). Okay, not THE TIMES, but I would even want that one, since the music was fine; just the lack of story made it stink. As a fan, I am happy to see that something will remain behind when most of these shows close, but couldn't this mindthought have been in vogue for LENNON as well????
LENNON had a score and cast of voices that should have been recorded early on, but never was because...of...although most of the songs were already recorded by John Lennon, the cast performances were terrific and these different voices would have made an outstanding CD. It doesn't matter if you liked the show (although I LOVED it), most people agree that the talent was amazingly awesome and plentiful and deserved to be preserved on CD.

Bare: A Pop Opera - the 11 tracks were not enough! Lestat - I'm not going to lie. I'm just curious about how bad it really was James Joyce's The Dead - This was one of the first musicals I saw on Broadway and I've always wanted to hear it again. Les Mis Revival - I guess it's not final if it will be made or not, but I really want to hear it and probably won't be able to make it to NYC in time to see it.
there are probably more, but I can't think of them right now...
I go with Smile (Marvin Hamlisch/Howard Newman) too. Arguably the great lost American Musical. There has been plenty of opportunity for this to get to disc, but Hamlisch won't sanction it, Newman's estate does...
LOVE LIFE WHERE'S CHARLEY Sandy Duncan's PETER PAN A longer recrding of HIGH BUTTON SHOES Any 1970's musical that had abbreviated recording (INNER CITY, FOLIES, THE ME NOBODY KNOWS, etc.)
Praying Decca Broadway will put "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope" on CD!
Woman In White NYC production. All those wonderful voices. Ron Bohmer, Jill Paice, Adam Brazier, Angela Christian, Maria Friedman's "All For Laura" was awesome, and Michael Ball's "You Can Get Away With Anything" a great piece of theatre. Much better than the London production.
I forgot to add CURLEY McDIMPLE! A hit 1967 Off-Broadway musical that spoofed the Shirley Temple films of the 1930s. Bernadette Peters played the Alice Faye-type character.
Shockingly Capitol Records DID record the show but never released the record! What a waste!
Praying Decca Broadway will put "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope" on CD!
THE THREEPENNY OPERA revival LENNON HIGH FIDELITY (hopefully) LES MIS (hopefully) DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS (with Jonathan Pryce, Rachel York, and Mylinda Hull)
Thought of another: The Scarlet Pimpernel with Douglas Sills, Rachel York, and Rex Smith. And I mean a complete recording, not like what we got on Encore.
I also would not object to one with Ron Bohmer and Carolee Carmello.
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!
Bare <3 luckily I um... found... a live recording um...lying... around lol... So I did get to hear the rest, but It'd be nice to hear clearer versions. And Lord of The Rings :)
