I saw Lea Michele as Young Cosette, so that's a fun bit of casting for her. Daphne Rubin Vega though? Definitely... an interesting choice. I can see her bringing much more fire to the role, rather than the typical "woe is me" Fantines I've seen.
"Alexander Gemignani??? He's one of the most talentless, boring people I've ever seen on a stage. "
If you are referring to his performance in ST, you missed the point of the show and the character.
Putting Daphnie in this show will ruin it ... just like CATS is ruined
Let's see her before we pass judgement, huh?
Daphne as Fantine? I don't know what I think about that.
I think Aaron Lazar will be gorgeous as Enjolras.
VERY happy about Alex! He's got a fantastic voice.
Not so sure about Daphne. I've never been a fan of her voice, she'll probabaly be fantastic acting wise, but yeah...not thrilled there.
Are they going to release a cast album? Any news yet?
EponineThenardier I totally Agree. Alex is awesome. Daphne should be CUT.
Who wouldnt have loved to see Kelli O'Hara play Fontine?

If you're going to publicly slander an actor, it helps the credibility of your opinion if you spell their character's name right.
I'm really surprised Aaron Lazar hadn't played Enjolras before. But yay!
Aaron will be GREAT. And Im sorry for having a bit of a typo...Fantine***

I will reserve any remarks until I see the show. I have a lot of faith in Cameron Mackintosh.
But I am excited about Norm Lewis is just going to kick so much ass.
Gary Beach and Jennifer Galloway is going to be a Dream Team.
OK, I would have LOOOOOVED to see Cyndi Lauper as Fantine. I know I say the lady for every role, but she would be amazing as Fantine. Though Fantine is MUCH younger.
I am excited to see Daphne. She has proved herself in Bernarda Alba that she is more than a rocker. And with the inherent rock-ness of Les Mis, I think she will be great. But I expect a brand new interpretation of the role.
As for Alex, I dunno. He didn't strike me as much in Sweeney or in Assassins, but that's sort of the point of the roles. We'll see what happens.
I am just excited for this production.
Stagerage, why such animosity towards Daphne in the role? Has she ever delivered a bad performance?
I think alex is gonna be really good...daphne is a question mark
First the question is WHY?! Why bring this back for a limited run? But more importantly, this is more of a nightmare cast than a "dream" one. I love DRV alot but she is simply not right, nor can she sing the show. Really strange casting for this imo.
The first word that popped into my head was MISCAST. First of all, Alex...while I think he's a good actor and vocalist, I do not believe he has the presence, the fire, or the ability to carry this production as Valjean. I truly hope I'm proven wrong. I doubt I will be.
Daphne!? I am a huge Daphne fan. Im a huge fan of the pure passion, fire, and electricity she brings to the stage when she performs. I thought she was perfect for her role in Bernarda Alba. Acting wise I think she's perfect for the role, as she was in Bernarda. Vocally she was perfect for Bernarda too. However, do I fear for I Dreamed A Dream? Yes, yes I do.
I'm excited but also apprehensive to see that Marius and Cosette are relatively unknown. The last unknown, I saw on Broadway...well, all but ruined my Piazza experience.
I have complete faith in the rest of the cast. Specifically Norm Lewis, Gary Beach, Aaron Lazar, and Jenny Galloway. To say that I'm looking forward to this production would be an understatement. When do tickets go on sale?

Bree, one person doesn't make a nightmare.
Besides, she's dead before 8:40!
Yes...because if you are going to criticize someone as an actor, you have to spell their name right or it just doesn't matter. Wow people...get over it! It's just an opinion! And if you don't like someone as a performer, it isn't because "you missed the point of the show and the character." That doesn't even make sense!!!

I'm really intrigued to see this...Alex ought to be interesting, though I think he'll be fine. Yay for Aaron, Gary, and Jenny!
Sounds fantastic...I'm praying for an extension.
Ah yes...BroadwayWorld. It was only a matter of time before I was attacked for having an opinion. "Publicly slander?" Good god people. Calm down. They're just opinions, and that's why we're all here.
Did I even specify Sweeney? No. I even liked Alexander in it, to a point. But in general, and taking into account other roles I've seen him in, I haven't seen the charisma or heard the voice to justify him getting cast as Valjean. I'll be first in line to see this revival and the first to admit that he impressed me. Up to now, however, I'm not much of a fan.
SOOOOOOOO sorry.
LOL Lizzie, you're right but i was talking about the majority of the casting, not just DRV. PG is about the last person I would have expected, well other than DRV for Fantine. How the heck is she going to sing that song?

Wow. I'm so excited to see Alex Gemignani. Good for him.
Gary Beach as Thenardier is perfect casting.
