I cannot believe they cast Daphne. I suppose it's an unconventional take on the role, but as much as I like her, I admit I'll miss hearing IDAD sung a la Ruthie Henshall.
ETA: I freaking love Gary Beach and Jenny Galloway :) :)

I know there's make-up, but it's not as if Valjean is only old for one moment of the musical, like Raoul in Phantom. In any case, I had no idea about other actors that age playing Valjean (thank you for the info), so I'm fine with it. I was just a little surprised, especially since there's probably a lot of great older actors out there for the role. And it'll be a little weird for the Fantine to be older than the Valjean, but that's not a big deal either, since Fantine was supposed to look ill and much older than she actually was.
Her voice ... Oh, God. How do I begin to describe Daphne Rubin-Vega's voice?
raspy? :) I think her voice is definately just you either love or hate it.
It doesn't matter, I was excited for this revival before any names were announced, now I'm just doubly so.

This is a huge opportunity for Lea Michele. She's so young and she's really been known as a child actress until now. She must really have the pipes now. Congrats to Lea!
Does Daphne have the pipes? Her voice is an acquired taste. Only Norm really excited me in this group. But I actually think even he is more right for Jean. (I can hear the screaming on the board as I type this.) He's just more of a leading man.
One moment? The end of Act 1 and the majority of Act 2 takes place in 1832.
Hey, no Eden as Fantine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anybody think that they'll get Rosario Dawson to replace Daphne when the show undoubtedly extends?

How is Ali Ewoldt for those of you who have seen her on tour as Cosette????????

I'm surprised Daphne wasn't cast as Young Cosette considering her voice had the tamber of a five-year-old when she was in "RENT."
Okay, I'm done. I promise. :)
Yay for everyone else cast!
How is Ali Ewoldt for those of you who have seen her on tour as Cosette? [multiple question marks cut because I care]

->>Sanda, I'm sure you'll feel better when you count your blessings no one from your favorite show, Little Women, will be in it.
Lizzie, I am not in a good mood for your joke.
I am not saying a bad Marius can ruin a show. I am mad because there are so many good Marius there but they choose one of the worst. This is insane. I cannot understand it. People doubt about Valjean or Fantine, at least they can wait and see. I saw Adams' Marius. I know he is BAD.
And I am very sad. To many people, Marius is not an important role maybe. But for me, he is one of the most important roles in this show. And "Empty chairs at empty tables" is my most favorite song among all the glorious music of Les Miz. It is deeply personal to me. So stop preaching to me. You don't know me, how can you know what I feel?

Nails on a chalkboard? A sick, dying cow?
I was really excited to see the show until I read this...

I think Gemignani will do fine.
Rubin-Vega, I'm much more skeptical.

Thanks Lizzie, I can google too. Has anyone else seen Ali?
Thanks Lizzie, I can google too.
On this board, you never can tell.
Congatulations Aaron!
I am VERY excited for Alex (by the way I had NO CLUE he was only 26!!!) I really see potential in his voice for this role, and given material such as this, he can really shine and carry a show. I realize that you all are doubting him, but he's only been in two shows on Broadway (I believe), and if Cameron Mackintosh picked him, he's got to see something.
As for Daphne Rubin-Vega, I think that she is going to be good in an odd way. I KNOW she'll act the hell out of it, and I think that she'll be fine.
I have not heard Aaron Lazar sing, but I LOVE Enjolras, and seeing as how nobody has said he's bad for this part yes, then yay!
Adam Jacobs, again, love Marius, hope he's good.
JENNY GALLOWAY AND GARY BEACH!?!?!?!? That is exciting on its own! They will be fabulous as the Thenardier's.
Aaron Lazar was great when I saw him in Piazza, seems like a really good fit for the part.
Well unlike Dame Ruthie she wont be singing this role through her clenched teeth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh please get a grip! If DRV can sing Mimi she can certainly cope with I Dreamed a Dream and Come to Me. There is a "lower" key anyway that only goes to C#. She will be fine and as folk said she would have sang it plenty in auditions.
I look forward to seeing what she does with the role. Its certainly the opposite of what the London cast is getting... another Eponine returning as Fantine! Sophia Ragaveleas coming back after doing a 2 year stint a few years ago.
Jenny Galloway is a gem. Mamma Mia, Mary Poppins and Nine are just some the shows she has blew me away in with her comic timing. And sure Aaron will deliver a nice strong Enjolras that will be in the strong belty, macho range (unlike some of the drippy pretty boys who have disgraced that role!)

Joanna Ampil also was a former Eponine-turned-Fantine.

Ruthie Henshall spoiled me for Fantines...that woman is the definition of a triple threat, I can't decide if her acting or singing was better in the 10th Anniversary Concert but both were immaculate. The only person I would have rather seen is Lea Salonga...I wanted her to be a bad mother too. No, but maybe she can take over after Daphne? Once her daughter is not SO new. And during all of Fantine's down-time, couldn't she take care of her daughter backstage? I dunno about kids backstage on Broadway.
Aaron is gonna be amazing, his voice floored me in Piazza.
SO EXCITED!
