I think the cast is going to be great. I'ma bit disappointed with Ruben-Vega, but hopefully her voice has gotten better since RENT.
Daphne should be.. interesting. Norm will be fabulous, though, I am sure.

The only one I'm really iffy about is Daphne.
I just can't picture her as Fantine at all.

I can understand people extremely detesting Daphne's voice, although I prefer it it certainly is not for everyone, at least give her the respect that she is a credible and extremely gifted actress. Just because everyone likes to see a Ruthie Henshall lookalike who sings it the exact same way each time does not mean there can't be a different interpretation, considering that everyone would probably be on her case if she tried copying someone else anyway.
Just give the girl a chance before you knock her acting, anyone who has seen her, especially recently in Bernarda Alba will know that she can pull off the tragic role.
i'm going to go out on a limb here and say Daphne will be INCREDIBLE as Fantine.. she was SO good in Bernarda.
I am so excited that Jenny is in this! She was fantastic at the Les Miz concert and it's gonna be great watching her and Gary!
And Lizzie, what are you talking about, re: Daphne at Rent 10? She was amazing that night, and honestly I think gave the best performance of the night(which says a lot).
I'm pretty happy about Daphne. True, I would have loved for Ruthie to be Fantine, but I had heard that Eden was definitely going to be Fantine, so I am absolutely thrilled that it's Daphne.
I have no doubt that Daphne will nail the role acting wise. Vocally.... we shall see.
Marius is one of my favorite characters too... why not cast a good one. I dont understand. The competition for this role must have been insane. To have any subpar actors in this show is inexcusable.

I was really surprised to see Daphne's name... BUT I am really glad they went with someone with a little more age and life experience... (as opposed to Eden Espinosa who I'm sure, would have been great too, but better, I think in one of the younger roles, just because she is also so young)... Fantine is a pretty difficult part to sing buuuuut... if they cast her, I'm sure she's up to the challenge. And I'm really, really happy for her, she deserves this part. Acting-wise, I'm sure she's going to kick major butt in the role.

I might be going to NYC in December and I will sell my soul to see Norm Lewis live. He's so amazing. I cannot wait.
Way to go Daph!

Wow.
I had been undecided as to whether to see this production or not (since I've seen it numerous times and it's not one of my favorite shows *ducks*), but this casting makes me want to buy tickets. Right now.
Holy eclectic cast Batman. This is going to be interesting, good or bad.
Alexander Gemignani? I've seen him in many different shows, and I have to say that I am stunned that he's been cast in this role. Still, he could surprise. However, I'm VERY excited about Beach, Lewis, Rubin-Vega, et al.
broadway86, what shows have ya seen him in, hmm? .
Assassins, Sweeney Todd, and the aired concert of Passions. Why?

Yeah, I'm suprised with Alexander's casting. He didn't really stand out to me in Sweeney, but I guess he "wowed" someone because he got the part. Isn't the part a tenor role? He didn't seem to have a very high voice.
Also, anyone think this show will have a sell-out run? I'm wondering if I should just get tickets now or what.
Might be a good idea to get them ASAP.

I just like to bug you .

Rentboy86- Alex is a tenor for sure. Give the Quartet in Sweeney a listen, he hits some great notes. Also, check out Unworthy of Your Love in Assassins, he's a tenor alright.

Daphne is a stellar choice and even if you do not like her voice, she will at least give a new interpretation and life to Fantine. She is a fierce performer who actually SAYS SOMETHING when she sings and sings with passion and emotion instead of just belting to sound good. Daphne is incredible and I have no doubt that she will work wonders with this role that I've seen so many times played the same way. I don't think this song is very difficult to sing either, she'll be great.

I went too far just now, didn't I?

I don't want to judge Daphne yet...
But to all those saying how much power she has...F.Y.I. Fantine is dying. You know, like Mimi at the end of RENT. Yeah, well, she stays good and dead until she becomes a bullet boy (if she's not too much of a diva).
Although, I guess she DOES come back. So Daphne should of plenty of experience with that. Though we like when Fantine comes back.
Anyway, I think Daphne can do it. And if she can't, as Lizzie said, she'll be gone before Jenny Galloway!
