Cats Tour

How many US Tours of Cats are there? Is there more than one company doing it at a time? I know there is the non-equity tour produced by Cats Eye LLC. Is there any other? Thanks!

Nope. There's only the Troika tour that's been going on since the dawn of time.

So thats the same one being cast by Dave Clemmons Casting?

From my googling, yes it's the same one. Troika refreshes its casting of the tour yearly in most cases.

Thanks so much for your help I was just trying to see if the tour coming to my home town is the same one.

I don't know, but it was the worst show I've ever seen.

Is this the tour with the inflatable set?

Do they also host birthday parties on that set...?

I still think it looks fairy decent from a distance.

Also, I think I read somewhere that they have two sets now and the inflatable one is only used for the shorter engagements, but I'm not sure if that's true.

I saw it about a year or so ago and I couldn't wait to get out of the theater.

I'm not gonna like...the inflatable set idea is a good idea for a tour that is doing REALLY short engagements. I think it looks great from a distance...and if they make it better looking (less cartoony) I think its a great idea for low budget tours. However, I would NOT want this to become the norm for most shows haha

That explains why I kept wondering why the things on the set didn't look real. I was sitting 10th row on the left and it looked really cheap. I didn't know at the time it was inflatable.

TheatreFan-
Actually, upon further digging, this one began in 2001. It's the Fifth National.

Inflatable? That explains why we were not allowed to visit Old Deuteronomy at intermission. The show was in champaign for one night - and I took my 9 year old down to the stage only to be told "No" that we couldn't go up on stage"no" and I kept my cool....mostly.
But what a way to dampen one of the "high points" of the show.

FWIW, at intermission my 9 year old said she was enjoying the show but didn't understand what was going on. The 16 year old - who saw Cats at the WinterGarden shortly before it closed - was in heaven with memories of attending the show and watching the video. Me...I was back to be bored by the whole thing.

Now that you mention it, I do remember the set being inflatable. I thought I'd blocked all of that out.
