Actresses over 40 who have been nominated over the past 5 years and were nominated + never won for Best Actress in a Leading/Featured in a Role in a Musical would be Beth Malone,Carmen Cusack,Keala Settle,Lauren Ward ,Stephanie J Block,Linda Edmond,Adriane Lenox,Jennifer Simard(?),and Jenn Colella. I can picture Carmen or SJB in the role......

Only a few of those names have been consistently performing on Broadway for the pas 10-15 years. Keep that in mind. Greek gave good clues.

Why do you find that strange? Cher's career started in the mid 1960s....she couldn't possibly play her 1960s or 1970s self.

Cher's musical catalogue is rich and varied. Sure there are some clunkers in there - some of her mid 70s Warner Bros. output comes to mind...but she recorded some hits as well as some stellar underrated tracks as a solo artist and with Sonny that were the work of some of the top producers/arrangers/songwriters of that era: Phil Spector, Harold Battiste to name just two. She moved on to record her famous trilogy of story/songs with "Gypsy, Tramps & Thieves", "Half Breed" and "Dark Lady" under the producing thumb of the prolific Snuff Garrett over at MCA/Kapp Records...sure these are songs that Cher has ultimately said she's detested but they were major hits in their day and made her a major force on the music scene after a brief lull in the late 60s..these songs along with her variety show with Sonny and her solo show cemented her legendary status not only in entertainment but as a major gay icon.
I for one am looking forward to this....

If this is the music of Cher it's gonna blow hard. If it's the story of Cher with better music, maybe.

^ Yeah, a Cher musical, but without her music. Makes total sense. A unique way to do a jukebox musical. I guess.

"Bette's turban is looking forward to Cher: The Musical" has to be one of the most perfect sentences ever.
