I believe Joseph Morales is Filipino or part-Filipino and is from Hawaii. He's the Ham alternate. Morales is a common name in the Philippines.

Asfar, who is playing Elizabeth, is Indian.

Curious to see if that IS the same Chris Lee who's worked with Street Theater Company here in Nashville (as the link about In the Heights says.) Saw him in their Heathers and was only somewhat impressed. His JD character is sullen and covered in a big duster coat, so not sure how much was director's choice, but he didn't seem to know what to do with his hands/arms, and kinda shuffled around a lot. He seemed at times to be in a different show than the rest of the cast, though at times you could tell he had some pipes. Seeing ChiHam in early Nov, so time will tell!

You're right. And for what it's worth, Ari Afsar (Eliza) is of Bangladeshi heritage.

Karen = amazing casting. When I first heard Satisfied all I could think of was her.

Alex = very very odd casting. I would never have guessed in a million years he'd ever get the part. Find him to be so incredibly boring and plain. This will be a real test of the material.

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

He's performed with East West Players, so good call!

Yes it is that Chris Lee (the picture a few pages ago was him).

I love Alex but King George is a strong comedic role and I don't think Alex has ever done such a comedic role.

Nope, not where I got it from and I never said it was my image. How ridiculous.

Are you saying the tumblr user took it from elsewhere? I see the source URL is instagram.

I'm seeing it pop up twice but no credit to a designer. Now in hot pursuit!

I guess it's too recent for TinEye or reverse Google Image search, because neither of those are working.

Is it wrong for me to secretly wish that they re-cast "Angelica" in the Chicago production and have Karen Olivo replace Renee Elise Goldsberry here in New York in the fall?

Nope, not at all. Even though I love Renee, I kinda wish Karen would come to the NY show as well.

@theatrenerd is it wrong to hope? Of course not. I am sure that if Karen had wanted to go to broadway she could have. I believe the proximity of chicago to madison played a part in it. I am thrilled we will get to see her. I expect her to be the highlight of the chicago run. However, I am part of the camp that finds Alex to be less than thrilling casting. I typically find him wooden on stage with the exception of his work in Violet which I did love. So i agree this will be time to see how the material tests against that. But exciting that we are getting a first rate production. Also, he seems to be happy in book of mormon but my dream casting is Daniel Breaker as Burr.

She never got tickets (we needed three and by the time she got through there were only singles) and now with this....I hope I don't miss Karen altogether. I'm hoping against hope that she's still there when the next round of tickets are released (though obviously I won't hold my breath)."

The show didn't sell-out that first day, so unless you had very specific dates in mind, you should have been able to get tickets (maybe not good tickets, but I digress). I remember finding it amusing that scalpers on the TM resale site were charging $1000 for tickets to a show that was not yet sold-out. While that initial frenzy was unusual for a production in Chicago, it appears to be selling about the same as Wicked did initially (though I think there's more of a worry that Hamilton may close-up and tour sooner, not due to lack of demand, but the desire for more money on the road, so people are more anxious to get tickets now than they were with Wicked). I'd be surprised if the same type of chaos ensues when the next block of tickets goes on sale.

I wasn't around when Wicked had its sit-down, but back in the day with Ragtime and Show Boat and Phantom, the contracts were usually six months.

My apologies. Okay, she's Asian. Either way, it was in response to someone complaining about a lack of Indian and Asian actors... It still applies.
