was anyone else at CCBB tonight? A man had a heart attack and they eventually had to stop the show. He was right above my family, so I was pretty much aware of the situation the entire time, and was really horrified at how horrible it was addressed, as was the rest of my family. It took FAR to long to come to this man's aid, and it took far too long for them to eventually stop the show. A man even yelled at his frantic wife to shut up, it was absolutely horrible. They said the ambulance responded quickly when they eventually addressed the crowd, but they must have waited a good 10 to 15 minutes to call it. From what I was hearing (they used CPR, AED, and frequently pronounced that he had no pulse) it didn't sound too good, and it took them about 25 minutes after the show stopped to get him out. Truly the worst theatre experience I've ever had. But to end on a more positive note, I love Raul Esparza's understudy and thought he truly outdid Esparza in every regard.
(Which understudy did you see? I can't agree or disagree since I've not seen either, but I'm curious, seeing as I don't think anybody could outdo the man. )
When I was at Pacific Overtures, one of the ushers came up to the guy at the table next to me (during intermission) to tell him that his mother had just passed out upstairs. She didn't break the news very well, IMO. He ran out panicked, and I didn't see him for the rest of the show.
I forget teh understudy's name and I forgot my playbill on the train, I know his last name started with an "h" tho. This was only my second time seeing the show, but I was very disappointed with Esparza the first time, and now this. The whole situation could have been handled so much better, my heart really goes out to that man and his family.
Oh, okay. Rick Hilsabeck. He's supposed to be the better of the two. Raul's gotten much, much better - I admit he was much a fish out of water at first, but I'm sorry to hear he disappointed you.
Anyway, in all seriousness, best thoughts to the man and his family.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

The baroness (Jan Maxwell is teh name taht comes to mind but I don't have my playbill) actually aknowledged the incident when it first began cause the wife was screaming "Brian" and she was in the middle of dialogue before Bomba Samba and asked Brian if he was lost or something at which point a man screamed at the man's wife to shut up. The cast went back on afterwards and put on a great final 15 minutes of the show, and the crowd (that hadn't left) was very appreciative. it was a strange experience
When I saw Little Women this past winter, a man had a heart attack towards the end of the first act. The show was not stopped, and the ushers just dragged him out the door.
the ushers @ chitty seemed determined to ignore the man's wife and the problem. we heard one of them come over to her to quiet her, and basically not believe that her husband was really having a heart attack. truly disturbing.
please don't private message me for details of what happened. as for those of you who are wondering about the timing of it all hopefully this will give you an idea. the woman started to scream at teh beginning to the baron and baroness's scene just before chuchy face. after chuchy face and before bomba somba, the baroness aknowledged the noise asking if brian was lost or somethign like that at which point an audience member screamed at the wife to shut up. the show continued until after What Do You See/ Truly Scrumptious, at which point an announcement was made and all teh actors froze until teh curtain was dropped. the man was carried out about 25 minutes later, and teh show strated 5 minutes after that.
sorry, it's my most common typing mistake, I have real problems with it, but my typing in general just sucks, and I rarely fix it if i consider what i wrote legible.
