I thought it was pretty horrid. I would NEVER recommend this show to anyone. We were bored and the flying car was the best part.
I'm sorry I can't give you more details: but I've blocked the memories out for fear of nightmares.
I really enjoyed the Broadway production and was wondering about the quality of the tour. Is there anyone who has seen it who can give a more objective opinion regarding the tour vs the Broadway production? Something other than "The show sux" sort of thing, since I'm already familiar with the show itself.
"“I should never have allowed toys into the marriage,” the Baroness sighs, in a line that received a stunned silence from the Toronto Christmas Eve audience."
That made me laugh.

When? What don't you like about it. Please give more than "sux" or I'll disregard your opinion.
I find this incarnation of "Chitty" to be utterly charming. The adaptation stays much closer to the movie than the Broadway production did. Both the script and the actors have a great deal of emotional honesty. The sets and the costumes are from Broadway and the show comes off as the 1st National Tour that it is. The weak spots have to do with (predictably) the unreliable elements of the show: the dogs and the mechanics.
i'm going to chime in as one who saw it on broadway and was bored for its entirety. props to the flying car, but it's still one of the worst "musicals" i've seen.

The tour version has been updated greatly. It is much tighter. Don't judge the tour version as being the same as the Broadway version.
I saw it on Broadway found it to be charmless. Raul Esparza, Jan Maxwell, and Marc Kudisch were the best parts of the show, along with the sets and the flying car.
I may check out the tour in Baltimore just out of curiosity though. I'm sure it's been downsized a bit since the show was absolutely massive at the Hilton.
I've always enjoyed the movie and I'm looking forward to the tour when it hits Louisville, KY in May.
Thanks Tag, stagedad and TenThousandThings! You were extremely helpful. Now that I have a little more info regarding the tour production itself, I'm sure I'd like to see it. I remember very well the reaction towards the Broadway production, but I adored it and I'm really looking forward to seeing this version. I only wish I could have seen it on Broadway a second time before it closed.
stagedad - TheCharleston was trying to be funny by responding with a direct quote from my post. Wasn't it hilarious? Did you get it? It was so insanely clever, no response or clarification is required. Nor is it requested. Socks don't need to explain themselves to anyone.
Me thinks that Stagedad has a kid in the cast. Would I be right?
The highlight of the Broadway production was Jan Maxwell. She was the only person who wasn't upstaged by the car. She should have won the Tony that year (sorry, Sara Ramirez).

Just looked at the tour site.
The sets are based on the Broadway version, yes, but they are wholey seperately designed..
Broadway set --
Same scene on tour --
Also, for this scene on Broadway, I DISTINCTLY remember them being on the lop level of a tall, skeletal windmill set with a spiral staircase and not on the stage floor --

Yes, I do have a child in the show.
Since I know opinions run strong on this board, I will not comment on the show or try to convince anyone of it's quality.
However, I can tell you that this is a newly updated version that is shorter and faster-paced than the Broadway version. It definitely would be a mistake to assume that this version is simply a repeat of the Broadway version. Great efforts have been made to give it a new and different feel that is more like the movie and the UK version that was so successful. I think people who choose to see this production will be pleasantly surprised.
I can tell you that audiences routinely stand and cheer at the end of the show and leave very, very happy.
By the way, Charleston and Mister Matt, I now see what the comment was about - sorry I missed that!

stagedad,
Any dates reasonably close to NYC? I would love to check out the show, but havent seen much info out there..
I enjoyed it on Broadway, but thought they made the physical production too big for its own good, though I stylistically liked the design. The tour seems to have remedied that, so It piques my interest.
