Seems like one hell of a show to take on tour. It's funny that TCP tour replaced so much because of supposed difficulties, and yet Chitty will have a flying car.
Guess I MISSED the tours near me. I HATED the movie. Is the play better?

Chitty is one of the creepiest things in the world.
It has a 2 day turnaround between stops. Clearly it will be scaled down.
Yeah, I'm sure it'll be scaled down somewhat, though I'm sure the car will still fly, since that's like the whole point of the show. Maybe they'll do what the Phantom tour does and have two separate sets, so they can set up in the next city before the run in the current city ends.
I think I might check this out when it comes to Baltimore. The Hippodrome's certainly big enough for a show like Chitty.
I assume this will be equity?

They toured Miss Saigon with a helicopter...

jordangirl: It was not a read helicopter, just a shell on a lift with tennis balls for the rotors
It still required a lot of technical stuff. And was big and heavy enough that the conductor dove into the pit when the brakes stopped working on it one night in Nashville. (I knew the guy and he told me all about it when he came to church on Sunday with his brother.)
They were discussing technical issues. I was just saying that was a pretty technical thing too. Moreso than anything I saw in The Color Purple anyway.
For those comparing THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and MISS SAIGON tours:
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA does not play 1-2 weeks runs... it has one-month (or more) runs in each city. PLUS... like the Broadway production, the tour brings in money therefore CAN afford to have a duplicate set.
The original 1st US Nat'l Tour of MISS SAIGON (which recreated in full the original Broadway staging) played 2-3 months runs in each city (it took about one week to disassemble and reassmble the sets in each city). The helicopter was the least of their problems transporting this massive show. It did NOT pay 1-2 week runs.
While we're at it -- the original 1st US Nat'l Tour of SUNSET BLVD (which also recreated in the full the original Broadway staging -- levitating mansion and all) played 2-3 month runs in each city. It took 10 days to dissamble and reassemble the sets in each city. It did NOT play 1-2 week runs.
Is it ocming to Los Angeles?

Saw it on Broadway and was bored for 2 1/2 full hours. Save you money and watch the movie when it airs on TV.
On the most recent Saigon tour, the helicopter was a computer-generated projection. All it required was a screen and hi-end projector.
Chitty has a flying car that requires carrying the leads both talking and singing.

Those Broadway Across America schedules aren't the full touring schedule. Those are only the cities where BAA is the presenter. There's many, many more bookings out there for this show.
Maybe they'll just use the little toy model from that one scene for all car appearances. Who needs the real thing?
Hee, yes, the little car with Ken doll Caractacus Potts.
And the little squeaky voices.

As I remember correctly, the first national of Beauty and the Beast did the same thing.

I would laugh my freakin' ass off. Would just be sooooo funny.
