Posted: 5/29/08 at 6:21pmI cannot help thinking of the Forbidden Broadway send up of this. I would love to see that performed.

re: Circle of Life to open Tonys#6
Posted: 5/29/08 at 6:33pmWow, I was hoping for something a little more....exciting for the opener this year.

Really? Again?
I guess, in the most positive view, it would be "hearkening back to the days when Richard Kiley would do an encore performance of The Impossible Dream on the Tonycast."
But seriously? They couldn't have done anything else?

Posted: 5/29/08 at 6:45pmBlah. Not that the number isn't impressive, but does it have to be the opening number? I'd really prefer to see Whoopi do something.
re: Circle of Life to open Tonys#9
Posted: 5/29/08 at 6:55pmI suspect Whoopi will be involved in some way.

The Circle of Life with both original and today's cast will be amazing!
Thats what is happening right?

Maybe she'll do the random African chanting.

it must take someone really special to put on a lame awards show year after year after year after year...
you gotta admire consistency

Hey look on the bright side we could just watch another showing of the Deskies.

They should do this but incorporate everyone else...
make Lupone a giraffe. and hold up Cubby Bernstein, at the end, instead of a puppet.
also a CRY-BABY cast member told me they're probably performing the Prison song from Act Two, as their song. just thought I'd share that..
re: Circle of Life to open Tonys#18
Posted: 5/29/08 at 7:13pmGood. It and Alli Mauzey are the only good things about that show.
re: Circle of Life to open Tonys#19
Posted: 5/29/08 at 7:14pmBetter Circle of Life than a repeat of what they did for this 60th Tony Awards.
re: Circle of Life to open Tonys#20
Posted: 5/29/08 at 7:28pmI understand they want to keep ratings up, but this is sad. I'd rather see the slots that Rent and Lion King are filling up filled by some of the other shows such as Young Frankenstein, Little Mermaid, and A Catered Affair.

re: Circle of Life to open Tonys#23
Posted: 5/29/08 at 7:52pmRichard Kiley did an encore of "The Impossible Dream" in the old Tony telecast which was a song from MAN OF LA MANCHA which starred Brian Stokes Mitchell in the latest revival who performed in the benefit concert CHILDREN AND ART in 2005 in which Whoopi Goldberg was also a participant who was the voice of Shenzi the Hyena in the film version of THE LION KING hence the Broadway production of THE LION KING opening the Tony Awards. It goes full circle. Circle of Life.

It doesn't say anything about the originak cast of THE LION KING.
DISNEY is greasing somebody's palm.
They have said they will feature other shows besides the nominees, let's see what happens.
