I know that they are building a theatre on 42nd Street between Dyer Avenue and 10th Avenue. Is there any info or pictures of what the theatre design will be like?

If,
and it is a very big IF, this kind of performing space gets built on that 42nd Street site, no I will not be thrilled. The real estate law stipulates theatre and not circus, much less one that is subsided enormously by the Quebec government already.

Build a real theatre or tell Related, the developer, to figure out another way around the tax and size easement laws. This has already been done at the required public hearings. The Community Board was not impressed by Related's presentation.

Then think traffic as well.

For the record, I have had more fullfilling "theatre" experiences watching Cirque's productions than when watching many of the current Broadway shows running. Those performers and artists NEVER "phone in" a performance. They are at the top of their ARTform. So, I would welcome them having a resident performance space.
I recall this same discussion when Disney began to take over b'way.
I'm curious, how does everybody feel about the "trimming" of broadway shows to 90min or under for the Vegas productions. (ie: Ave.Q, Hairspray, Phantom, and more to come)

Cirque is performed in a theatre and not "circus space" when I saw Ka in Las Vegas. It was a proscenium with scaffold wings out along the orchestra. I don't think that all their shows need to be in the round or circus style.

Where can we see images of the theatre they want built?

When were/are the public hearings?

The entire block is gutted- so when does construction start?

If you were actually reading this board, you'd know that most people here find it appalling. AND Avenue Q DID NOT trim the show for Vegas.

I think trimming the shows is terrible but at least the shows are being produced and people are working!

Is Mamma Mia cut? If so, what numbers?

Ya, Avenue Q was not cut down at all. Some of the song lyrics were changed, but besides that, it was the exact same. And personally, I think they should build a new Broadway theatre instead of a Soleil one. Look at all the shows that are being wait-listed because all the theatres are full. If we had another one, it would help quite a bit.

Well, as happy as I am that the score performers and personnel will be working, I'm just about Cirqued 'out'. I've seen and enjoyed six productions, but aside from the costumes and music...I found many of the acts repetative. It seems that as they grow with popularity, so does the ticket prices. I love their merchandising, however!

i have been wondering for years why they haven't done anyhting on Broadway, at Radio City or even MSG. I guess we'll have an answer soon.

I think tourists will eat this up!
