Sorry you missed it. It completly changed my opinion on Salesman. Now it's one of favorite plays with memories of that production in my mind. Franz was astounding!

Camelot, and- to a lesser degree- Carousel. I don't particularly dislike either of these; they're just kind of "eh," for me.

Chalk up another Carousel, and throw in Kismet. Neither did anything for me, though I will admit there are a few treats in the scores.

Could never get into Kiss Me, Kate. Don't know why. I love bacstage stories as much as the next fella, but Kate's book always comes off as contrived and at odds with the more sophisticated parts of the score.

"Carousel" is actually the only R and H I can stand. I DESPISE "The Sound of Music"--safest, blandest, least interesting piece of tripe of all time. And "Brigadoon" makes me feel as if my brain were turning to taffy.

I'm much more likely to be touched by shows other people despise. I love "Beauty and the Beast" AND "Aida" (Elton John's), as well as...gulp..."Footloose."

The King and I, I realize is a great piece, but it never really did anything for me. Same with Mame and Peter Pan.

But I, too, will try not to read much more of this thread, as it is starting to kill me a little inside. Like, in my general torso region.

i find it surprising that carousel leaves people cold. i find it to be one of the most intriguing and incredible musicals ever written.
now for something that i find completely bland thats a classic - wonderful town. one of the least interesting shows ive ever seen.

alwy15 - I agree with you on Carousel. In my opinion, it's one of the only handfull of Golden Age musicals that hold up today by the standards of the more experimental late '60s and '70s(assumming "Golden Age" is ment as Oklahoma! to Fiddler - another I'm a little surprised that's being mentioned). There are a few songs that really aren't needed, but overall, it's by far my favorite R&H show.

ANNIE, but only because I heard "Tomorrow" waaaaaay too many times growing up in the lat 70s and early 80s.

Definitely MY FAIR LADY. Great story and some BRILLIANT music but together it is just TOO much! Latest London production was STUNNING but it just HAS to be the last time I see this show!!!!!

Oklahoma - I know what it did for the modern musical, but I still can't sit through it

Kiss Me Kate - though this could be because I've only seen it done by my Grans amateur society and the show ran nearly three and a half hours!

Annie - was this show ever good?

Camelot - it's just too damn long!

Ghosts - not an Ibsen fan generally, and I was probably too young when I saw it.

I love My Fair Lady, and though it may be slightly overdone by amateur societies, the show really works when done properly!
