Clueless Coming To Broadway?

(Amy) Heckerling is currently hard at work on bringing Clueless to Broadway and has written a book and song lyrics for the musical. Despite being in the “really, really, early, early stages,” the question of whom Heckerling’s ideal Cher would be looms large. “Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death,” Heckerling said, while acknowledging that Perry’s schedule might make a commitment difficult. “Maybe Iggy wants to do it!”

These are the best suggestions I have ever heard. Vanessa Williams as Tai and Idina Menzel as Cher would guarantee to get me there even if not for the right reasons!

I've always thought that "Popular" and "I'm Not That Girl" would fit perfectly in a musical version of Clueless. Cher and Dee would sing "Popular" to Tai as they made her over, and Tai would sing "I'm Not That Girl" when she realizes that Elton prefers Cher over her.

This should appeal to undiscerning 90's nostalgia fans and the seemingly ever-moneyed teens who love to see themselves portrayed on stage!

If they are talking High School kids, I hope they hire high school aged kids (or not much older). There is nothing less appealing to me than a 30 year old hired to be 15..takes me right out of the show.

And yes Lilla Crawford as Amber...good idea.

Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez would have been a good fit for this particular project. Too bad that it's now being done as a jukebox musical.
