I've heard worse..
Interesting they released such a long clip. I saw it yesterday and there’s actually a lot more to that scene after the clip ends. Both Farrell and Robbie play huge musical theater fans and there’s musical references sprinkled throughout the rest of the film, as well.
It’s gotten mostly fair to negative reception and I understand why, it’s not going to be the kind of thing everyone likes but I kind of loved it. That’s the second film I’ve seen in a week with not so great reviews yet an entire audience could be heard audibly crying throughout. (the other being “The History of Sound”). But if you do see it, just try to allow yourself to not question why anything is happening and just kind of accept that it is, and you might enjoy it. Or not lol.

When the trailer dropped I thought "this is the kind of movie that looks so unabashedly earnest that a lot of people are probably going to reject it outright".
Sounds like I might not have been far off. Still very interested in seeing it, though!
It’s VEEEEEERY abstract in parts.
My mother really wanted to see it but I called her after I got out telling her she’d hate it. She likes things very cut and dried and I told her that if you’re going to enjoy this you have to just accept that these two are simultaneously in a hospital and also in an empty warehouse sitting across from each other on chairs and then a few minutes later they’re climbing up a hill and are in outer space, looking down on the planet. But the tone for the film is set almost instantly, so you kind of know what you’re getting into immediately.

The trailer showed potential but this clip is unbearable.

That was quite fun!
The film was dull and lifeless - no energy to keep the audience engaged. The one exception was the How to Succeed sequence.
I thought the movie was an inoffensive but unequivocal mess. Structurally the movie is supposed to be split between the real world and the more fantastical trips behind a series of doors. However, the "real world" seems equally surreal and also operating under dream logic.
I kept forgetting Sarah and David were the character's names because it just seemed like the kind of film where the leads would be named 'Man' and 'Woman'.
Seth Reiss also was a writer on The Menu, a movie I absolutely love, but I just couldn't connect to this one.
