I bought tickets for this weeks and weeks ago, solely on NPH being cast. Everyone who has been added since is icing in the cake, and now I'm *completely* over the moon and antsy to see it already! This cast is EPIC.
To the NPH naysayers, I sincerely hope he blows everyone away with his performance. He's an experienced Sondheim performer and I think he's got the chops. Go, Neil!
The person I'm most *interested* to see in this is Stephen Colbert, simply because he's not someone I'd ever picture in a Broadway musical. What a wonderful, suprising choice!

My thoughts exactly.
I hope this gets taped for PBS
It was pretty amusing to see the NY Times ad for Company on Sunday and there was Stephen Colbert, whose headshot looked exactly like he does on The Colbert Report---a snarky glare into the camera.
This should be fun!
And yes, I'm *praying* for a PBS filming!
"The orchestra is going to be three times the size of the original Broadway production - they likely want more voices to match it."
True. but they're not exactly performing Mahler. The full NY Phil will not be performing (nor likely will their principal players) and I'm skeptical that the orchestra will exceed 30 to 40 members. Also, it's a miked performance so singers really won't have to compensate for the large sound of the orchestra. Leave that to the people in tech, I suppose.
Sounds like a great cast except for NPH - only because I still feel bad that Raul lost the Tony to Niles.......
Anyway, it's a great play with great music!

So, you're blaming NPH that Raul Esparza didn't win the Tony?
Honestly I saw Raul's version on PBS and loved it, and I'm psyched to see NPH tackle the role as well.
Don't really think I would like to see NPH in the role after seeing Raul in the role.... Don't think he has the voice....
I'm not sure how many musicians - but reportedly its over 40.
And yes, this production is being filmed for PBS. I have friends who are working on the taping end of it.

Think Raul's voice isn't any better than Harris's.

Best news of the day/week. I think the Colbert/Plimpton 'fight' will need to be preserved.
Good luck to NPH in the role - heard him in Assassins and thought he was very good.... Just don't think it compares to Raul's though....
Performances on both the 8th and 9th are being filmed for the broadcast, which will obviously be edited and shown at a later date.

That is such exciting news! You have made a lot of people who won't be able to attend in person VERY happy!

Think Raul doesn't have that great of a voice.
FIRST. This newly minted out-of-towner is thrilled about the filming. That just made my day.

Okay, it is a secret to NOBODY that I am always on team Raul, but I absolutely do not understand this comment. What does one have to do with the other? Fine, you may not like NPH as much as you like Raul, but his ability or lack thereof to do this part justice (which I think he will) could not be less related to whether or not you think Raul got his due for playing it.
And also, Bobby is far more complicated than just needing to be sung well. I'd rather see someone act the sh*t out of him and make me fall in love with him again than hear it sung "perfectly." Raul sang it so well because his voice is expressive, not because it's beautiful. I don't think NPH's voice is powerful enough to make for the greatest Being Alive ever, but it'll be decent enough, and I DO think he will act the sh*t out of it. That matters more to me. Those are beautiful songs and they should be done justice, but they're nothing if you can't make them mean something.

How did they get a cast so perfect? So happy to finally find out it's being filmed! And having Tick Tock in the show just makes it even better! I can't wait for this!
The one person I'm especially excited about is Jim Walton. He's a great talent and should be seen more often. And to be paired with Patti LuPone as Joanne! Oh, could this get any better. The cherry on top is Lonny Price's direction.
Mr. Price’s nights will be spent plotting camera angles for the show, which will be filmed in performance and shown in movie theaters in June

SO happy this is being recorded! I can't get enough of this show.
I was just about to post the link to the NY Times article. While it's awesome that the show is being recorded, I must admit I'm surprised they're going with the theatre route instead of a PBS route. Would this still mean a DVD release?
This is such fantastic news! Oh, and 1 DAY!
I hope it'll still end up on DVD, but either way, I'm just so grateful that it's being filmed. It'll make not being there as close to okay as can be.
This might be a "movie theater event" I'll actually wanna see. (am in NYC this weekend seeing other shows but just couldn't swing hundreds of $$ for mediocre seats) And here's hoping for a Bluray release like the Esparza version!
