Very awesome! The cast already seems to have such great energy and the shows not even started yet... I can't hardly wait until October!

Namo - I surely hope you are being facetious in requesting that Tam look just like Sammy Williams...
And absolutely - if Bennett were alive, we would definitely not be getting a revival like this. Bennett probably would have interviewed dancers today and would have used their stories as the inspiration for a completely new script and probably would have commissioned a new score to boot.
Bennett never played it safe. As much as I love ACL, you just know he wouldn't have wanted it to be done like this on Broadway now. And maybe that's where the growing feelings of discomfort come...

Posted: 4/26/06 at 10:38pmI'm officially EXCITED about this show. Even more so than I was about The Drowsy Chaperone coming to Broadway after I saw it in L.A. I can't friggin' WAIT.
#29re: Cool CHORUS LINE Video!
Posted: 4/26/06 at 10:39pmI heard Bennett never wanted ACL to leave broadway in the first place.

"Celebrating a birthday this week: Rene Descartes is 412! Do you know who he is? Then why are you watching this show? You could probably get into college and even get one of those job things. As for the rest of us; Amanda Bynes is 22! Yay!"

I dont think that's quite true Mateo. Althopugh I do know that when ACL was nearing the end of its Broadway run, the producers wanted to move the show to the Music Box theatre because they felt they could basically keep the show running "forever" there.
It apparently really bothered Bennett that the references were becoming increasingly out of date - and he really tried to keep it current, but he knew that was a losing battle.
He wouldn't have wanted the show to be viewed as dated or old - and if it "never" left Broadway - that would have been inevitable.

I don't recall the producers wanting to move it to the Music Box but I do remember Laurie Gamache wanting it to move Off-Broadway.
And I most certainly DO think Paul should have a big thick moustache, if we're sticking with the '70s iconography and the gay guy doesn't have a thick moustache to go with his zip up sweatshirt, I call shenanigans.
Also, that tawdry version of the logo on the new website makes my sinking feeling sink deeper. I hope that's just a place holder.

Can we say FREAKIN' AWESOME?
*It wasn't until I saw the face paired with the name that I realized how psyched I am now that I know Ken Alan's in it! (Loved him in "Fosse") Michael Berresse was my hook, but Ken's the icing on the cake!

Posted: 4/26/06 at 11:45pmI wonder if this revival will have an intermission? The original version didn't but I saw a production a couple of years ago in San Jose that did. It totally ruined the mood and feel of the show.

Posted: 4/26/06 at 11:59pmNo way. It's a two hour show with no intermission. That's how it played on Broadway for 15 years and on every national and international tour and that's how Breglio and Avian will produce it this time around.

Umm...did anyone else notice how hot that "Larry" was!? Taylor Hanes I believe...very nice to look at.
I did this show last summer here in TX and it gave me a whole new outlook on this show. I can't wait to see this revival. I'm almost ecstatic!

How I spent my weekend? Altering those damn stretchy costumes. If I had to sew one more crotch strap I might not have lived to tell the tale.
The cast is so cute though! They're all so excited. And what a surprise to see Jason Tam, who I went to college with, playing Paul! The word is he made Bobby Avian cry during his audition. He's quite a talented actor, moustache or no, though clearly Hawaiian and not Puerto Rican. But whatever, one island is the same as the next, right?

That's what the coquis thought until they freaked out the Hawaiians and wrecked the local eco-system.
I do think it's problematic that Paul doesn't have a moustache.
Maybe they should shake up the book a little and have Al come out as straight. You know, given all the other gaiety on the line.

Michael Beresse already hugged me. Now how about all of the hot male ensemble!
They should add a Tony for Hottest cast.

Posted: 4/27/06 at 11:19amHaving played Paul in several different casts I must say that I don't think Paul needs to have a mustache. However, I am known in ACL rings as "Tall Paul" because I am the tallest damn person you will ever see Paul! Anyway, I think it is interesting that Cassie is wearing her skirt tied on the right since Donna was the only one to do that. Annie who was the second Cassie changed it because it moved so much better in "The Music And The Mirror" and every Cassie that followed wore it to the left. After watching that clip I definitely can say that I really don't like another black person on the line. I think it is detrimental to the show. I love that the cast is so enthusiastic but I wonder how they will feel when they realize that they are gonna have to fight a lot of their own instincts as actors to stay within in 'grid' of the show. In a lot of ways 'originating' the revival of ACL is like being a replacement. I have said it once and I will say it again, I am very curious to see this but I think it is too soon for a revival.

Is it actually possible that this will be GOOD?
As someone who saw the original 6 times--and had friends and boyfriends, some now deceased, cast in it and fired from it and cast in it again (long stories all...)--I was DREADING this. I thought it would be the worst of all revivals: pallid and flaccid and ultimately insignificant.
But this video and the pictures have something exciting about them. Not the overwhelming majesty and profundity of the original, but something that definitely made me smile. Maybe this will do for Michael's work what Chicago did for Fosse's...
What a great gift to Michael's memory it would be if this turned out special!
PalJoey has his fingers x'd.
If this comes out well, maybe someone will have Bob Avian restage Michael's work in FOLLIES.
