Let's look at this in perspective. I happened to be looking in the 1944-45 Theater World Annual. That year there were 107 shows that year. And seven hits. Every other shop flopped.
And that used to happen every year.
This is such a drop in the bucket...

So now Cry -Baby and Glory Days are the only musicals that closed. I see the end it sight for Passing Strange. It is great but it has not been doing to well in the box office

My heart goes out to the hard working cast and crew. All I can say to sum up the experience was I loved the chorus boys!

Show sucked. Now maybe something worthwhile can occupy the space.

I saw the show in spite of the bad reviews both on the BWW boards and in the newspapers because I believe if you haven't seen a show you can't discuss it. IMO there's little room for discussion. Outside of the choreography, this was the worst show I've seen in years. I liked the current GREASE revival better and I loathed that production.
I wish everyone involved with Cry-Baby much success. Now they can move on to better things rather than being tied to this embarrassment of a show.

Cry Baby will be the first Tony Nominated new musical to not have a cast recording since James Joyce's The Dead...how very sad! I think Cry Babe has a life outside of Broadway. Maybe MTI will pick it up, and they'll make a recording like with The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

crybaby will be gone forever just like lesast and hot feet ,in my life ,lennon and good vibrations because they do not what to keep them here and save them for the collecter like me.

I think the show would do very well if MTI picked it up...especially in High Schools. Only 2 adult characters in the whole show. It was definitely a lot of fun...good, campy fun. The humor reminded me a lot of Reefer Madness. The dancing was great, some really cute songs, and a wonderful cast. Best of luck to each of them

As much as I didn't like Cry-Baby, I wish the crap that's playing over at the Palace would just do everyone a favor and close.

Kalimba, you are about one farmer's field away from a s**tstorm for suggesting that and not just from me. "Legally Blonde" looks like the work of Tolstoy and Tchaikovsky compared to the "Cry Baby" fiasco.

Many of you still continue to gloat and act as if you are aficionados of theater. If you were truly knowledgeable and/or talented you wouldn’t be sleeping on your mother’s couch or drawing bunny ears on your photo.
Broadway could easily become a dying art over the next few years as the economy continues to sink and potential audiences are more concerned about paying their electric bill than spending $125 for a theater ticket. Producers may no longer be capable of investing the millions of dollars necessary to develop new shows.
If you truly care about theater you would be doing whatever possible to keep it viable instead of running home to post a review of a show after the first preview just so you can make yourself appear important. Some of you even wrote “reviews” of the show weeks before you ever even saw it. Evidently you are so gifted that you don’t need to see a show to analyze it.
There are so many lies told in these blogs just so someone can see their name on a post. What a great way to boost their own ego! People that actually work in the business know what is really going on. It is obvious that most of the people that post on this site only wish they were on the inside.
There are amazing performers in Cry-Baby just as there are in every show. These actors, along with the musicians, costumers, tech people, are now out of work.
Next time, try having intellectual discussions about shows....who might have done a better job with the part, wasn’t that lighting amazing, did you see that set transition, what could have been done differently. Or is it that you are just not capable?
“Legally Blonde” offers something other than Disney to young Broadway audiences. “In the Heights” exposes young Latinos to legitimate theater that they might not have had a desire to experience. “Cry-Baby” provided an evening of campy humor. “Xanadu” made me laugh, even though it really wasn’t my style. “Passing Strange” may not be to everyone’s taste, but it provides an option for those who want a new theatrical experience. Everyone has different tastes, that's how it should be.
Keep up the smear campaigns and there may not be shows left for you to poison.

I think this is sad news.
It amazes me though why so many people have blasted this show. It fascinates me how different everyone is and what one person can find entertaining and fun another finds to be the worst thing they have ever seen on a stage.
I am not criticizing anyone for their personal opinion but it just fascinates me.
For the record I on my recent trip I enjoyed Cry Baby, Hairspray, Saved and Xanadu. I absolutely loved Gypsy, Young Frankenstein and August:Osage County. I was not that fond of Avenue Q and thought that The Little Mermaid is the worst show I have seen in a long while.
Last year I saw 'Legally Blonde' and I am shocked that it is still playing. I don't think the score is at all memorable and as far as the script go you might as well just watch the movie (which I love). That said, I still enjoyed seeing the musical the one time. To me I can't see why Cry Baby is that much worse than Legally Blonde - once again I find it all very interesting.

I'm really disappointed I never got a chance to see it. It is such a great cast.
