Posted: 7/21/06 at 8:07amI REALLY hope this makes it to Broadway, as LA is too far for me. I hope all you who are going post your reviews..I heard they were looking for a theatre in NYC, but there were none available..

You can get two kinds of the $20 seats: in advance, they're located in the extreme side orchestra, usually the last two seats against the wall on either side. These tend to sell out, though, and for some shows its not the best to be sitting on the extreme side.
On the day of, it's whatever is left in the balcony - first come, first serve.

The advanced tickets aren't always on extreme sides of the orchestra.
My Hot Tix for Curtains are actually center orchestra Row L on the aisle.

Question:
will it go to Broadway? Because the Longacre and Cort are empty.....
#32re: Curtains in LA
Posted: 7/21/06 at 2:32pmThose theatres are too small for Curtains.

Posted: 7/21/06 at 4:31pmI have tickets for Aug 19th, the 2nd row of the mezz. $20 a ticket, but the catch was it is a family desinated show, so one or more of the tickets has to be for a child under 12. Great promotion that I jumped all over. Check it out if you have children.

To anyone who might know-
Are the new lyrics written after Mr. Ebb's passing on par with his own?

I am pretty sure that this was the last thing written before his passing.
#36re: Curtains in LA
Posted: 7/23/06 at 4:12pmIt credits Rupert Holmes and John Kander with additonal lyrics. I'm pretty sure Kander can write a damn good lyrics, but is Holmes as good as Ebb?

Posted: 7/23/06 at 4:31pmI saw the reading of the show last fall, which features just about everything I see that is in the current tunestack for L.A. I really couldn't tell what was Ebb and what was Kander & Holmes. Whatever is new is pretty seamless.

Posted: 7/23/06 at 5:13pmI've heard that Mr. Kander has been writing new music and lyrics himself for this show up until the last minute, and that everything is brilliant.

'yeah it sounds like it will be good. but im in summer school right now and im only working part time so even with the discounted tickets it will be a little tough to come up with the money. so if I hear some good things about it, then i will try to scrounge up the dough :)'
The Ahmanson used to have public rush tix for most of their shows avail 2 hours before curtain the day of the performance.
For the first 5 weeks of a run they'd sell available tickets in the Balcony for $12 for most perfs except Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday matinees.

#43re: Curtains in LA
Posted: 7/26/06 at 5:53pmI went last night and it was fantastic! We got our tickets from Hot Tix ($20) and the seats were in the middle of the mezzanine with a perfect view. David Hyde Pierce is so good, its incredible that he hasn't been in a ton of Broadway shows. I can definitely see this show being a success on Broadway. All musical numbers are very clever and catchy. Its fall-out funny, and at one point, the laughter from the audience went on so long that Debra Monk had to stop and wait to say her next line, and even David Hyde Pierce was giggling. Anyway, if anyone wants to know anything else, I'll be glad to tell you!

Posted: 7/26/06 at 6:18pmHow long is the show? Also, were they selling any souvenirs?
#46re: Curtains in LA
Posted: 7/26/06 at 6:25pmWell, there are about 4 big numbers that are from "Robbin Hood," the show within the show. Those are the bigger, flashier numbers. "Thataway" and "In the Same Boat" are the best ones. Of all the other numbers that aren't from "Robbin Hood," the best ones are "Show People" and "A Tough Act to FOllow." The number that opens the 2nd act is "He Did It" and the lyrics were so clever! There are 3 reprises of "In the same Boat," but so worth it...wait for it. I really hope there is a cast recording coming...I would love to have it!
#47re: Curtains in LA
Posted: 7/26/06 at 6:28pmIts about 2 and 1/2 hours with the 15 minute intermission. I didn't see any souveniers...but that could be because I wasn't paying attention! There may have been

Posted: 7/26/06 at 6:34pmthe reading I was privileged to see in NYC seemed a bit book-heavy, but the song list reassures me that perhaps they added some more music. Did the mix of scene to song seem right? As much as I admire Rupert Holmes, he does have a tendency to indulge himself...

Thanks, muchly! That all sounds great. Kander & Ebb are my favourite writing/composing team, and I love Karen Ziemba and Debra Monk too. I really want this to work and get a cast recording asap...
