I'm starting to see the advertisements in the paper and around town for The Light in the Piazza in LA - definitely looking forward to it even though its three weeks away. Did anyone else see this on the Ahmanson's MySpace? It's not a mime act! This just has no words. The story is conveyed in gestures and dance. But there are no mimes. Many of Matthew Bourne's shows are more like Broadway dancing that tells a story, as opposed to a straight up classical ballet. This one looks far too coloful and fun to pass up. I've been impressed with nearly every work of his that I've seen down here in LA. (Was disappointed with 'Nutcracker' but that was really the only one).

Dame - what exactly is your source for the 70% houses? I've been twice - on regular nights, not invite nights like opening, and I went on weeknights to boot - and it's been very well sold. But yes a bit disappointing that no changes are going in after opening. Seems they'll be doing most of it before NY but not in LA.

Hugely excited for this, though I won't get to see it until next Thursday. Reports please from those of you who go! Usually you can still walk up on the day of the show and get tickets at the Pantages box office - its so big that there's usually always something still available... just an option to avoid Ticketmaster fees. They're ridiculous.

Yeah I don't think its a total turkey - its fun and amusing, but they're going to need to work on a few things before NY. But it's fun and slick and well made already. DRS, though, was a total hoot when it tried out in San Diego. Don't get why the LA Times bashed it so hard when it was down there. Ooh - thanks for posting the pictures from the Ahmanson's site. "Tough Act to Follow" was such a fun number, with David's overexcited (on purpose) dancing.

There was no reference to any specific theatre during the Los Angeles run of the show. Loved the joke about the Morosco that they inserted for New York.

So, I saw it and had a lot of fun. Not as much fun as "Drowsy" but its still a lot of fun. It will be interesting to see how they work on it over the next week or so leading to press night. I'm not a huge fan of the Goldstar tickets in the Pantages for the value - the last two rows in the Mezzanine are $25 regular price, and they're really not very bad seats compared to what you could get on Goldstar. It's a low Mezzanine, so you end up not feeling so far away - meanwhile, Goldstar is in the either far side orchestra or Rear Orchestra, way underneath the overhang (the orchestra goes from A to Z, then an additional NN to ZZ), creating a psychological barrier between you and the s...

No intermission in the literal sense. There's a scene in the show that occus where an intermission might normally take place. To say any more would spoil the fun.

You can get two kinds of the $20 seats: in advance, they're located in the extreme side orchestra, usually the last two seats against the wall on either side. These tend to sell out, though, and for some shows its not the best to be sitting on the extreme side. On the day of, it's whatever is left in the balcony - first come, first serve.

How are the rear balcony seats? Do they feel too far away, or too high?

It's ok - didn't find it a great production, but not a bad one either. At the end of the day, its still Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard, despite the starry cast. And how you react to it will depend on how much you enjoy Chekhov. That said, the actors are all wonderful, particularly Alfred Molina as Lopakhin and Sarah Paulson as Varya. Just saw Drowsy Chaperone this weekend at the Ahmanson Theatre in LA. To add to all the chatter here about it, it's great fun - GO SEE IT!
