Curtains moving to a smaller theatre?

Posted: 3/25/08 at 10:39amI saw it knowing Ziemba would be out on vacation, and when I arrived at the theatre Monk was also out. I was a bit upset but after about 10 minutes I was in love with the show itself, had a great time and left with a big smile on my face. If I get back to NYC before it closes, I do want to see it again.

"What's the idea?"
It isn't going to happen and understand why, but the idea is to lower the prices so shows which are not as familiar are no longer such a huge monetary risk to say - a family of four. I know it's all a risk, but paying $30 for a ticket and not enjoying a show is a lot less painful than paying $100 and not enjoying the show.
I know there are discount tickets, but I'm not sure how many visitors know how to access the discount offers. So much of it is a crap shoot - Lotto, Cancellation Lines, SRO. If your planning a trip in advance, it's not something you can take a chance on. Granted, I've gotten Broadway tickets for less than I've paid for some shows at community and regional theatres. However, it took me a while to learn about the offered discounts and how to take advantage of them.
Maybe the answer lies in having the theatres and/or promoters do a better job of advertising discount options, rather than to assume people know about the discounts and how to best take advantage of the offers. Then again - if a show is selling well without advertising discounts, why bother?
Six of one, half dozen of another.
Long-winded answer to a short question - sorry.

It's fine when a show has returned its investment or run its course to widely advertise the discount options, if the show can still run profitably or just pay for itself on heavy discounts. But if there is not a sector paying full price, a show's days are numbered.

StageFan2--What I'm hoping is that there will be a bigger theater in the touring production of Curtains.
But who will star as Cioffi in the tour?

I personally did not like the show, I thought it was just a vehicle for David Hyde Peirce(who was the only good thing about it). I went in expecting something great with the cast that it had, and was disappointed. You could tell there were 4 distinct voices trying to write as one, both the book and the lyrics were missing something. It didn't gel well for me, and I felt like it was missing something that could have made it a great show.
So that's my reasoning StageFan!

acrocksyo - I wasn't directing any of my comments at you. I'm sorry if you took it that way. I meant no offense.
Thanks for explaining your reasoning. It's always nice to know why a show's elements come together for some and not for others.
iluv - I don't know anything about the tour. We'll find out in the months ahead.

I absolutely love the cast recording! I wasn't able to see the show when I was in NYC last and I won't be able to make it down until the fall when I move there
So, I'm really disappointed that I won't get to see it!
It had a good run considering all the things working against it. Tis a sad day
But I wish the best of luck for the entire cast and their future endeavors come June.
