Should it become more popular, could Curtains move to a smaler theatre? I could easily see that if it makes back it's money within the next month, it could move to a smaller theatre such as the booth, or maybe the music box should august not prove as successful as a full run?
It's a nice thought, but I doubt it'll happen.
For a show that is making a marginal profit each week it wouldn't make much sense to toss away another million dollars (at least) to move the show. I'd expect a national tour will start up eventually and that is where the show will recoup the initial investment.
No, I doubt it. August is succesful enough as it is, and I doubt the size of the theater will make a difference to the production.

That would be wonderful, but I can't see it happening.
As much as I would like to see CURTAINS stick around, moving to a smaller theatre isn't really an option. The sets are very large and there is a large company of players that would have to be accomodated. I don't know of a smaller theatre that would work well.
Anybody?
Stagefan's right, it wouldn't work well in a smaller theatre!
How about close it, and bring something good to a Broadway stage.
I'm always right SpellingBeeFan.

Something good is currently playing there - the tourists just don't get it.

Yes you are. Except when you get lost on the bus.
I'm not letting you borrow my helmet again tommarow!
I'd like to know exactly what about Curtains isn't "good." I can see where some people might think certain aspects of it aren't "great," but I don't get how you can say it isn't a "good" show. To each his own, I suppose.

There's really not a lot to "get." It's probably the most straightforward, obvious thing you can see on Broadway right now.

I personally really enjoyed Curtains. Add me to the list of people who hope the producers make back the investment with a national tour.
It wouldn't make much sense. The show will have a nice life in the regional circuit and will hopefully boast a great national tour with a talented cast.
I have to agree with scarywarhol. I don't think you can put this one on the tourists - it's just what they want - a big old fashioned toe tapping entertaining show you don't have to think about too much. Just sit back and enjoy it.
I loved it, personally - and I'm a tourist!
Shame it's closing.
It wouldn't make any sense. It being in a smaller theatre wouldn't help. The fact is that, at this point - short of casting Meryl Streep, Victoria Beckham, and Zac Efron - it's never going to make enough money to justify it's existence.

I can already see Zac Efron take over from David Hyde Pierce.
He can sing it all an octave above.
I didn't and don't mean my comments as an insult or put down to tourists. It takes all kinds to make theatre successful. Besides, I'm tourist trade myself.
But, in my opinion, what a tourist these days is looking to see would be something familiar or something that has gotten a giant stamp of approval from other tourists; Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, Wicked, anything Disney - no matter how bad, and of course Grease, again; no matter how bad. There's a familiarity with these shows, almost a safety net if you will. When you're paying a ton of money for a night at the theatre; be it a single, a couple, or a family, you want to know there will be at least the chance you'll enjoy the show. I don't think the majority of tourists gravitate towards something original, especially when it touts itself as being a good old-fashioned Broadway Musical.
I think too, that people more familiar with theatre, both professionally or as regular patrons, are more apt to take in a show like Curtains, or at least give it a try. I think with this type of theatre-goer, there's more of an understanding of the broad characters and inside humor, and of course the excitment of a new Kander and Ebb score, because they know who Kander and Ebb are and the many wonderful scores and shows which have come before Curtains. Familiarity.
As with all things, I'm sure there are exceptions - there always will be, I'm just sorry that shows like Curtains aren't among them. Still it had a good run, but apparently not a good bottom line and that's really what matters. After all - all together now...

Well said, StageFan2
We should all petition and put this idea into the producers heads?
I am surprised the show ran as long as it did. Not fan here obviously.

Hehe...yeah right. Where do I sign up EA? As if the producers would listen to us.
What's the idea?
