What do you all think would be a great Broadway starring vehicle for Cyndi Lauper to do next. Here are some suggestions.
Anything Goes
Applause
Hello Dolly!
Damn Yankees
On The Twentieth Century
The First Wives Club
A Cyndi Lauper Musical Revue
So many great things she can do to get her Tony.

She auditioned and Sondheim liked her. But La Lupone was already promised the role.

If only they had given "Sweeny" to Cyndi, we would not have to listen to Patti...

Sweeney. For sure.
I also think she would make a terrific Ursula. But, whatever.

Posted: 7/12/06 at 11:12pmI agree with Ljay, Cyndi Lauper would make a fantastic Mrs.Lovett (she wouldn't be a bad Roxie Hart either); however, after seeing her much underrated (yet mesmerizing) performance in The Threepenny Opera, I wish she originated a role so she can be at least be nominated for a Tony award. I'd personally like to see her play Vera in Mame, Phylis in Follies, Luisa in Nine, and Sally Bowles in Cabaret.

Posted: 7/13/06 at 12:28amI think she would be the perfect Lovett for Burton to direct.

Posted: 7/13/06 at 12:48amI would really like to see her replace Patti, hoping that it would still draw people to the show. I would love to see her in Sweeney.

I have to admit that the first role that sprung to mind was the one many seem to have thought of as well. Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd. Maybe Tim Burton will take a hint for the movie.
Since they are not bringing Christine Baranski's Mame to New York, I would love to see what Cyndi could do with that role.

Don't shoot, but I think she could make a good Morrible in Wicked.

Posted: 7/13/06 at 4:39pmIf there ever must be a revival of Oliver, the only way I'd go see it if she were to play Nancy. But I agree, I'd like to see her originate a new role in a whole new show.

Posted: 7/13/06 at 4:42pmIs she too old for Glinda? Hmm maybe Morbbile though that part sucks.

Posted: 7/13/06 at 4:46pmShe is too old for Glinda and not right for the part. And she would be wasted on Morrible. If she were going to go in an established show, I could see her doing Matron Mama Morton in Chicago--a bit against type, but she could work it--and I'd love to see and hear do "When You're Good to Mama" and "Class".

I posted awhile back that Cyndi Lauper should do the Sweeney Todd film. Come on Tim Burton directing and Johnny Depp starring, it could make Cyndi Lauper the superstar she already is with us all to the whole world now. The only other actress that could have played Mrs. Lovett has passed away a few years ago, the late and great Madeline Kahn. But for Cyndi to take over the role on Broadway after Patti LuPone leaves would be a bad idea. I think Cyndi could also play the mother in the movie Mamma Mia. Come on this gal needs an oscar.
