And why Holliday suddenly added a week off to her schedule? "
No idea re: Holiday, but 12/3 & 4 for Erivo & 12/19 for Holliday are listed on TC now.
*Cynthia Erivo will not perform on all performances Wednesday matinee - November 30, all performances December 3 & 4, Wednesday matinee - December 28, and Sunday evening - January 1.
**Jennifer Holliday will not perform Monday - December 19.
I understand that Celie is an extreamly demanding role, but is anyone else annoyed by Cynthia's attendance? It seems like she's spending a lot of time going to galas and enjoying her new fame. I think that she's brilliant, and good for her if she has some arrangement with the producers, but she's the main draw for the production, at this point . With just a few weeks left, you'd think that she could buckle down and honor the vehicle that catipulted her to Broadway superstardom.

Actually, I disagree. Her attendance has been pretty darn good, especially given its long run. For such a demanding show, she hasn't been out sick very often and her vacation/other commitment dates have been with a lot of notice.
Those dates (except the recently announced Dec 3-4) have been on Telecharge for months and were probably negotiated as part of her contract extension and may have even been booked before she knew she was extending. I would rather have her extend, with planned outages, than not extend at all.
I look forward to seeing her and the rest of the cast on the 9th. If there are unforeseen circumstances, we will enjoy her understudy.
Telecharge sent an e-mail out today to ticketholders for the Dec. 3 and 4 shows, offering an exchange for other dates.
I saw the matinee yesterday and Bre Jackson was absolutely stunning. Her Celie is in the Erivo/John Doyle mold, but she adds her own touches throughout, it's absolutely not a copycat performance. I was so impressed by her, more than I could have imagined.
Also, it may be surprising, but Jennifer Holliday became my favorite of the three Shugs in this revival! I fell in love with her interpretation of Shug. She was quirky, mysterious, but most of all she played it with so much warmth, more than Hudson or Headley. It was such a genuine performance, and I have such a new appreciation for Holliday and her great talent. If you haven't seen Holliday's Shug yet, make time to see her!
I'm really sorry to bump this, but the language on Telecharge is really confusing to me: "Cynthia Erivo will not perform on all performances Wednesday matinee - December 28, and Sunday evening - January 1."
Does this mean she doesn't perform Wed matinees through December 28th? Or just THAT particular matinee?
it's just that matinee. I'm assuming she's opting out of that performance due to the show's schedule that week. From Dec. 25 - 30 they're doing 9 shows in 6 days.

Hi everyone, for anyone else who might want to know, I am updating my own post from earlier since I found the answer on her Twitter - Cynthia Erivo will not be performing at the matinee of 12/26. I am sure the show is wonderful with or without Cynthia, but I really wanted to see the show with her in it so I probably won't be seeing it...

she's taking off that performance because they're doing 9 shows in 6 days(12/25-12/30).
