Funny you mention Bridges, I remember when it premiered people thought it sounded like Piazza-lite, which it often does..
I really like JRB, but Guettel would never write anything as fluff sounding as the bulk of Bridges.
I can’t tell if it’s good or not - without seeing or plot details I’m finding it a little hard to put it into context. However, one thing I’m certain of is it’s not easy accessible listening and I don’t think cold listens of this recording will sell many tickets. I’m stunned that this is about to open on Broadway! For years we keep lamenting that Broadway is so Disney and yet shows like this just keep popping up time and time again. I’m always thankful that some people keep pouring money into these kind of shows.
It’s an odd listen out of context. I won’t be able to see the show but I plan to watch the film to see if that helps make sense of some of these songs.
Physical release in January, per Guettel's website.

No matter what people end up feeling about this show, definitely seek out the movie.
It's really one of the greats. Bleak. But easily one of those haunting great classic films that deserves to not fade into obscurity.

Exactly my thoughts as well. Like Sunday, I can tell upon first listen that it is intricate, at times beautiful, and possibly brilliant, but man, it's going to take me a lot of listens to really absorb it. I could see it being a score that people come to fully appreciate (and perhaps love) more as time goes by.
What a beautiful, dark, and complex score that would probably fit just as well in a modern chamber opera staging. I really love the use of jazz, it feels very true to the boundary-pushing music of the era and is a big step up from the typical pastiche. I need to see this ASAP!

Three days later I still can't get enough of There Go I. I love Kelli's rendition, but it just occurred to me, I desperately need Audra McDonald to cover this song!! Also Lila Hangs the Moon is quietly becoming my third, or maybe even second favorite track.

Bridges is pretty.
This score feels lived in.
I love Bridges, although there’s definitely some filler in the score. I enjoyed it multiple times on Broadway, but the score doesn’t match the quality and intricacy of Piazza, for me.
