It's a teaser trailer, which means it was probably created before a frame of actual film footage was shot. That said, even with her late addition to the cast, if they wanted to, they could have easily recorded Hudson's vocals for use instead of Holliday's. That process is very easy.

Ahhh that's so exciting! But am I the only one that thought that preview looked like the opening segment from American Idol?

No more American Idol talk please (heheheha)...no I don't think so. Everytime I view it I get the feeling like I am going to faint when I hear Jennifer belt "I am telling you"

I really like the style they are going for. The electric blue and black is my favorite graphic design color scheme. Yes, I know, I'm geeky for having a favorite graphic design color scheme, but that's ok.

But, I was going to post what ShuQ posted. The CGI person that the "camera" moves around, complete with electric blue highlights - its very similar to the American Idol intro. However, that just may be what they are going for at this stage. Afterall, Idol is one of the top TV shows.

Wow; just got home and there aren't words for how exciting I am for this film. Like CapnHook said; it's gonna be a long year! Well, off to watch the tralier one more time before bed :-P

Hmmmm - If I were Ms Hudson, and already facing the core audience's prejudgement of that role, I wouldn't be too pleased about them throwing that right out there from the very beginning. I wonder if that means they're going to try to shoehorn her into Ms. Holliday's style of presentation? I wouldn't want that gig.

And it strikes me as odd that a piece titled DreamGIRLS features two men in the limited presented lineup, albeit the ones they're using as bait. Marketing is such a strange and ugly business.

We discussed "teaser trailers" on another thread in anticipation of the Dreamgirls teaser. They are made (as this was) before shooting starts, the pre-records had not been done either, so basically what you're looking at is nothing from the finished film. There is no on-screen talent used here (none of the cast is in it, these are models). As I had mentioned the music is from a "previous source" in this case it's the OBC recordings with some "sweetened" orchestrations (which helps with the surround sound when playing the teaser in a movie theatre). Still, it was done with the full supervision of Bill Condon.

All that said... it has definitely accomplished what a "teaser trailer" should accomplish... It's getting everyone excited about seeing the film.

It pops up in a separate window, so you may have to disable your pop-up blockers (temporarily!) to get it to work. That might help.

I find it surprising that the graphics are taken from the 2001 concert. The font/lettering is identical.
