If this happens, I can't wait to see how they pull it off!
Also joining in..

Drowsy Chaperone - Bette Midler
Aldolpho - Robert Downey Jr.
Mrs. Tottendale - Julie Andrews
Underling - John Lithgow
Robert Martin - James Marsden
George - Mike Myers
Feldzeig - J.K. Simmons

Hmmmm I guess they knew that I wasn't going to be available for filming ....
I think Rush is a good choice. Having seen it several times with Bob and on tour and regional productions I love this little show. The only thing that a lot of the productions get wrong is they get a slightly older very gay man to play the role. One of the charming things about the Man is that you are never quite sure about which one he is.
That being said I think they will need to overhaul it to be about old musical movies that he threads up on his 16mm home projector to make the story really work on film.

best12bars---I agree with you---Beth Leavel definitely for the Chaperone! Her version of As We Stumble along is amazing! Her facial expressions, etc. are perfect. (Do you think they'll ask for our casting opinions?) :)
How about Jennifer Hudson for Trix, just to not overuse Queen Latifah in these movie-casting games?
A Grindr date gone bad.
Twink innocently asks about old movie poster on wall. Older guy replies with frame-by-frame rehash of the entire film.
Final moments: Camera captures twink's text to friend while leaving the house: Wrst. Dt. Evr.
Fade to black.
I thought about Jennifer Hudson and she would be a great choice, too.
EDIT: I also wondered if someone like Frances McDormand could sing well enough to play the Chaperone. She would be a hoot if she could!
How about Octavia Spencer? She needs more good roles!
The Grindr framing device made me lul.
The Grindr framing device is genius.
The Drowsy Chaperone or Janet van der Graff = Varla Jean Merman.
And Miss CoCo Peru as The Chaperone!!!!

The show is so metatheatrical that they'll have to come up with a damn good device to make this work. I don't care if it makes a lot of money, but I love this show too much for it to become a bad film. That said, if they do come up with a good script that's as clever as that of the show, I bet lots of Hollywood people would become interested and we'd get some pretty good names. I would die for Bette Midler as the Chaperone.

"Hedwig" is the ultimate niche musical and it certainly made a terrific film.
Maybe Janet can have an angry inch.
What about Diane Weist for the Chaperone? "Don't Speak!"
And Chandra Wilson for Trix. If Hudson were to do it, we'd have to see the part "enhanced to suit her talents."

She would have been perfect 15-20 years ago (assuming she could sing it well enough). Come to think of it, Carol Burnett would have been perfect for the Chaperon 25-30 years ago.
If time machines count, then I'm all for it!

Sorry. In light of the Billy Elliot changes to make musicals more family-friendly, the inch (now an animated character voiced by Danny DeVito) can be merely annoyed.
If time machines count, then I'm all for it!
Well if that's the case (cue the flashback music) . . .
Man in Chair - Charles Nelson Reilly

Drowsy Chaperone - Betty White (as Sue Ann Nivens)
Aldolpho - Desi Arnaz

Before everyone gets too wrapped up in casting, remember it's a Canadian/Australian co-production.
"Before everyone gets too wrapped up in casting, remember it's a Canadian/Australian co-production."
So basically, Terrance & Phillip are going to play all the parts then, right?
"The Stinky Chaperone"
EDIT: And Rumpelstiltskin, I love your cast!
Actually, if you want to throw some Aussie names around, really good Chaperone candidates would be:
Toni Collette
Cate Blanchett
Judy Davis (after seeing her play Judy Garland, I wouldn't even care if she was lip-syncing)
I had to throw Queen Latifah out there for Trix because...I mean, really. Do I even have to say it?
If I had the luxury of a time machine, I'd choose Eileen Brennan to play the Drowsy Chaperone.
Well if I had a time machine...
Man in Chair - Tim Curry
Janet - Leslie Ann Warren
Robert Martin - Michael McKean
Chaperone - Madeline Kahn
Aldolpho - Lee Ving
Mrs. Tottebdale - Eileen Brennan
Underling - Christopher Lloyd
George - Martin Mull
Kitty - Colleen Camp
Canadian Content rules in order to qualify for funding from TeleFilm will certainly influence casting. I'm kinda thinking Andrea Martin For the Chaperone then. And I'd really like Bob Martin to "cameo" again as the Super. If it gets shot in Canada there are more opportunities to put Canadian content in.( bet Nia Vardalos get in there somehow)
