This show could save a rather lackluster Broadwy season. I am for sure coming back to NYC for this one, hopefully opening night!
Hope this happens. A friend of mine saw it twice in LA and told me I should get tickets if it transfers to Broadway.

Previews start April 3. opening night May 1.
The Marquis holds about 1,600. They will have NO problem filling it when the word-of-mouth hits New York. I was just hoping for a more intimate and less "modern" (cold) theatre, but I guess it really doesn't matter. I saw it at the Ahmanson in L.A., and that holds about 2,100 people.
A house of 2,100 for a limited run (what, a month?) is fine. But an open ended run? I don't want to say negative things about the show since I saw it in LA also and enjoyed it...but I don't think it's the mega-musical that tourists flock to see like Wicked, Spamalot, etc. It's a cute 90 minute-ish show w/o intermission. I hope I'm wrong, but that's my gut feeling right now.

Maybe it will start there and transfer to a cozier venue in late summer or fall. It has a great shot at taking the TONY for best Musical, so that should help fill the hall!

I really hope this happens.
I am so eager to see this show! I am especially hopeful that Beth Leavel comes to Broadway in it...not only is she a fabulous performer and extremely nice, but she lives up the street from me!
Bwaybaby18, are you serious with your comments on Sutton in Millie? Did EVERYONE forget that her first post Millie show tanked big style on Broadway?

Then run up the street and tell her she's brilliant!
Oh yay! I loved this show. I can't wait to see it again.

How exciting! I sincerely hope I get up there to see it. It makes me wonder how many performers have performed in the same theatre for more than one show.

Very few people bought tickets to Millie to see Sutton. They bought tix based on the name-recognition of the movie and later because of the Tony Award. And the show still flopped.
Foster's next show, Little Women, lost millions on Broadway. That's two shows and two flops.
Foster has yet to demonstrate that she has any box office pull whatsoever.
I have not seen this show, so that is why I am asking... Can this show fill the marquis? That is a hella huge space.

ashley--save that for another thread--and it's a great question--this is strictly DROWSY love!
Possible announcement by end of day?
well appreintly my views are jaded. I knew alot of people where going to see the show because of word of mouth about Sutton. I think the thing i am most excited about with Droswy other then the show itself is seeing Georgia Engle.

Inla2, Apr 3, May 1, both Monday's.
Are you sure, and where did you get your info?
Like so many others here, I can't wait for this show, and for the big dates.
Also, I hope this is not another Amex deal.
Chaperone really isn't a "Sutton show." She has a (killer) featured role in it. She stops the show with her first jaw-dropping number. But it's a supporting role.
Madame X --- I don't think this will be the next "Wicked" or "Phantom" and never said so. I think they will have no problem filling the Marquis initially, and perhaps for a couple of years, even. But certainly not "now and forever."
People think in such extremes around here. Sheesh.
You'll probably be able to get easy tickets for the Broadway run while it's in previews... but once the reviews and the word-of-mouth get out, I'm fairly positive there will be a nice chunk of time (not INDEFINITE) where tickets will be hard to come by.
And I predict it will easily win the lion-share of Tonys this year. Bob Martin for leading actor. Either Sutton or Beth Leavel for Featured Actress (I think Sutton has the edge), and Danny Burstein for Feature Actor. Also, an easy win for Best Musical and several other awards.
For once, some GOOD news!

Hank, those dates make sense. A lot of shows in previews play Monday-Saturday with Sundays as dark. And where possible, shows will open on a day when they can invite the maximum amount of people. If 90% of shows are dark on a monday, all the casts can come to the opening.
Sutton's big number "Showoff" is AMAZING!!! This is so freakin' exciting.

I agree regarding the TONYS. Not only is a fresh new original show, but there are so many wonderful performances. I think Sutton and Beth will be nominated. Also possibly Danny Burstein (as the latin lover) and Troy Britton Johnson (as the happy go lucky idiot groom). Hell, they may all be duking it out within the same show. Everyone is so perfectly cast in this.
I agree, Sutton's role is not a "lead." It's more like an ensemble show. I wonder how much they'll charge for 90 min one act show?
But the best part for me was Danny Burstein (Armando?), Rebecca Luker's husband. His performance was hilarious!
I don't think this will be the next "Wicked" or "Phantom" and never said so. I think they will have no problem filling the Marquis initially, and perhaps for a couple of years,
I never said it would be now and forever (sheesh); I was just citing examples of shows that are having "no problem" filling seats right now. I think they'll fill the Marquis for a few mos (not years), through the summer/fall perhaps...after that, we'll see. Again, I hope I'm wrong, but I'm just having problems picturing this cute show taking the town by storm like everyone is talking about, since so few shows do.
I am especially hopeful that Beth Leavel comes to Broadway in it...not only is she a fabulous performer and extremely nice, but she lives up the street from me!
I'm a big a Sutton fan as any, but Beth Leavel practically stole the show for me. She's great in the role.
I agree that the producers should wait for a smaller house. Not to mention; the Marquis is just a bad space all around.
Although I wasn't a fan of the show, I must say that Sutton was AMAZING and her big number is a great show stopper.
I think NY audiences will appreciate and support this show, but once it's time for tourists to buy tickets... that's when it'll get interesting.
