Dabbing

Can anyone tell me if there is a negative connotation involved with the current fad called "dabbing"? I'm staging a special project at the church and want to incorporate dabbing. Some of the younger girls don't want to do it and from their tones of voice I'm suspecting something's wrong and I don't want to put the sweet things on the spot.

Can anyone help?

Ha! I think the negative connotation, if real, is that it's just soooo distinctly millennial.

They're probably embarrassed because it's not so current anymore. Fads go so quickly they probably look at it as something their grandparents did.

I had no idea that word existed until I saw it here then googled it. It seems it is everything from dancing while sneezing and snorting at the same time.

I teach middle and high school and the kids still act insanely thrilled if they see someone dabbing. A big part of the thrill is that dabbing is somehow this secret thing that only kids know about it, it seems. It is definitely a counter-culture, trendy thing, but ultimately it is harmless and cute. That said, when I direct the school musical I forbid my cast for adding any dabbing at all because I know that all anyone will talk about is how a character hit the dab and the rest of the show will disappear behind it.

In that case, it would work. If I directed Godspell, I'm sure there would be a dab in every parable.
