Wow! Who will be Jerry to their Robert and Emma?
Michael Cerveris!

I have a giant talent crush on Michael Ceveris, and I fully realize not all affairs/lust/love is based on purely physical aspects, but...in what world does a women cheat on James Bond with Michael Ceveris??
Funny, I was wondering who in the WORLD they could cast to make sense that she's cheating on JAMES F'IN BOND. David Beckham, maybe???

Wolverine?? (not to toss out Hugh's name, since apparently he's used in every "what if" thread)
Jake Gyllenhaal?? Captain America?? James Tiberous Kirk? Adult-film star Chris Rockway?? I admittedly don't know the play that well.

I find Cerveris extremely handsome, suave and sexy. I know I'm not the only one.

I'm in NO WAY calling him a dog. I do find him attractive, but it's in a weird way. I'm not poopooing the idea of his casting entirely, but...on paper...talent/charm aside. VERY VERY few people are picking him over Craig (and his arms). I feel the same way about his Georgio in Passion despite how well acted and sung his is.
Did anyone read the article in the Times about stars on Broadway doing revivals? Unable to post a link. A good article.

Yes Jo. Thanks for posting the link. Haven't figured out how to do that on my tablet.

I love this news, and think that Cerveris would be a very good idea.
Bradley Cooper

I think Bradly Cooper will be great, but I think he was not mentioned right away, because isn't he attached to the ELEPHANT MAN around the same time period, so he can't be in both!
Ah yes. I forgot about that.

Ah yes, because if Mr Cooper is to play any part on broadway it's as a deformed "freak." I always forget how difficult he is to look at.
Didn't he get pretty good notices when he did Elephant Man at Williamstown? Also I think it's in the script of the play that the "deformity" is more about what the actor does with his body and face rather than actual ugliness.
First the shallow response: I think people might be losing sight of the facts that Craig, though craggily attractive, is not, facially speaking, exactly a classic beauty, far from it, that Robert doesn't come out of the Grand Canal wearing scant square cut trunks showing off his pulchritude, and that, presumably Craig will certainly not be playing him as James Bond.
Now the relatively less shallow response: An audience insufficiently worldly to know that marital troubles happen even among the sexiest spouses, insufficiently emotionally intelligent to realize that not all extramarital affairs are based on comparative physical magnetism, let alone on a Madison Avenue notion of comparatively higher octane sexual attraction, and insufficiently savvy to grasp that the play is not a romance novel about a married woman swept off her feet by the cover boy, is certainly not an audience that has the least chance of appreciating this play to begin with.

First, Cooper is a great actor. Honestly, his performance in Silver Linings Playbook is by far one of my favorite performances in years. Yes, Elephant Man is about the actor's body playing deformed instead of prosthetics or makeup. I have no doubt he acts the part beautifully. I was just trying to make a joke about he is SO stunning-looking it's just funny to cast him in an "ugly" role. I felt the same way sitting through three hours of The Heiress with the actors trying to convince me that Jessica Chastain was so plain looking and homely.
Second, I said in my original comment I know affairs and attractions happen that aren't about physical attractiveness. I know they'd probably put Craig in a dumpy suit and he'll wear glasses and won't be Bond. But it will be like Justin Bartha in Lend Me a Tenor with his crazy blue eyes shining through. I know attractive/hot people are cheated on, just look at Halle Berry. It's just funny to me to think of someone cheating on Bond (or Craig in general). Not saying it's "unbelievable" just a funny thought in my brain along the "girl you must be crazy!" lines.
I got that, Nasty_, but look at the pic of Craig I posted above. He is not wearing dumpy clothes. Nor would Robert, who is usually rather natty. He's wearing nicely fitting jeans and a sweater.
And he certainly doesn't look like The Spy Who Loved Me.

Regardless of who they cast it would be an interesting dynamic to see Weisz and Craig play that out considering they are newly weds in reality. That alone is clever casting.
Why isn't Craig playing Jerry? He's more appropriate for that role, and it's far bigger too. Robert is essentially a supporting part.
What about Benjamin Walker for Jerry?
