Posted: 1/27/10 at 6:36pmHow strange that the current company is leaving after only three months. Was that how long their contracts were for or are they being bought out because of low ticket sales? Not to start rumors, but it is a bit strange. I guess it's possible they all committed to a short run because of their TV/film careers, and Stott doesn't even live here.

I was a defender of the Lahti, Potts, Smits, Stott casting because I believe they're three fine American actors (and a Brit who I don't know but had to believe was solid if they were going to bring him from the UK). That said, I didn't actually make it out to grab a ticket. But THIS cast! Daniels getting a chance to show his versatility in the same show and Janet McTeer getting the chance to to ANYTHING would have me buying a ticket. Add in one of my favorite underrated actors (Baker was brilliant in the Solondz movie Happiness) and Lucy Liu! I adore Lucy Liu. Great in Kill Bill and Charlie's Angels, but she hasn't ever really had a part where she got to flex her acting muscles. I hope she's brilliant. I can really imagine her pulling off the tight, mannered, snippiness of Annette. For some reason, it's just easy to picture. Here's hoping she and Baker are more Scarlett Johansson and Liev Schreiber than Julia Roberts and Paul Rudd.

Wow I'd love to see this cast! This is the kind of names that should have replaced the original cast. I can't imagine how great Lucy Liu will be in the Hope Davis part. Davis was probably my favorite part of the evening when I saw the show in the summer, I'd love to go back to see Liu in the role. I'm with you, Jewishboy, she is hilarious!
Janet McTeer was great in MARY STUART, I'd love to see her in a comedic role like Veronica. And Daniels in the Galdofini role? Wow.

Posted: 1/27/10 at 7:51pmI'm truly joking on Jbara and Olivo (she was a place filler)...but I saw Kudisch and Janney in "9 to 5" and Janney would be good as Veronica (not Annette, why did I think of that?) and I think Kudisch would be good as Michael because Michael is loud/obnoxious (from what I saw in GoC videos) and a role like that suits him well...

Lucy Liu-um, I don't know what to say-yes, she's "fierce" and all that, but she is definitely the weakest link and she is probably the clearest example of stunt casting. She was probably a throw in, and probably the cheapest actor in the bunch. I'll be curious to see how she does on stage. She definitely needs the work. She's pretty C-list right now.

If it has the same director as the GOD OF CARNAGE movie, this is who I would expect to be cast (and I am well-aware of the character names, but if it is a true screen version of the stage musical they have AWFULLY big shoes to fill, AWFULLY):
As Barbara Walsh: Demi Lovato
As Sheryl Lee Ralph: Raven Simone (too old?)
As Karen Ziemba: Selena Gomez
As Sam Harris: Ian McKellen
But the real question remains: is the world RED-DAY?!

The current cast was only contracted for three months, so they're not being bought out.
I see the producers continuously bringing in a rotating roster of celebrities every few months, much like what was done with Yasmina Reza's ART when it ran on Broadway.

Liu auditioned for a role in Miss Saigon back in 1990:
Lucy Liu, 21, of New York City, agreed. 'There aren't many Asian roles, and it's very difficult to get your foot in the door,' Ms. Liu said. ' 'Miss Saigon' is really important for all Asians. It will have so much to do with what happens in the future for us in the theater.'
