I wanted Danny.
I would've been content with Jeremy.
I was pissed when Kazee won.

...Then I felt like sh!t after crying during his speech.

I was equally entertained and moved by Danny and Steve’s performances, so I didn’t mind if either won. Steve’s speech was very touching and I can’t wait to see Once again.

This is my biggest deception of the night, and there was a lot for me...

Apart from Neil Patrick Harris, this year's Tony Awards was a huge disappointment.

Isn't the Tony Awards a huge disappointment almost every year? Sitting at home in my recliner in Ohio tonight, I'm somewhat sad to say I saw nothing on the TV screen that would make me want to hop on a plane, fly to NY, pay $300 a night for a hotel and plop down a $100+ for a ticket to see any of the shows that were nominated tonight (with the exception of Follies which I saw last November and adored.) I thought Nice Work looked tired. Matthew looked bored. Leap of Faith, Once and Ghost looked awful. Newsies looked halfway decent but I saw better dancing in Step in Time from Mary Poppins. I guess I could tolerate Porgy and Bess, but only to see Audra and hear the great score. Sorry to be so negative, but why are Broadway audiences today paying so much and settling for so little.

What choice do they have?

Gee, I forgot to mention the God-awful song from Evita. Lupone must have been rolling her eyes. And Peter and the Starcatcher. It looked like a high school production. These were the SHOWCASE numbers tonight to get people to fork over their 50's and hundreds??? Sad.

I know people may not agree, but Burstein should have been in the supporting category which I am sure he would have won. He had the disadvantage of the show being closed. And Kazee really is wonderful in Once and has a very large part. If you like Once, and I know not everyone does, Kazee is the role that the audience can identify with--he's lost and he's helped by someone who gives him hope again.

At any rate, I'm sure the voting was very close for Burstein, Kazee and Jordan.

LuPone POSED FOR A PHOTO with the cast of EVITA backstage! WTF?

And Matthew Broderick ALWAYS looks bored.

I didn't see the show, but if tonight's performance is what he brought to the show, color me unimpressed.

And why the WTF on Patti taking a picture with the Evita cast? It isn't like she has a vendetta against the show, or this production.

Kazoo was great in ONCE, 100% better than that sucky performance he gave in 110.
Losing a parent is tough anytime and I feel for his lose, and losing a hot babe to boot, but a pity win is just that.

If not Danny, I would have gone for Norm, but Steve got the win and Danny will prevail eventually.

This was my big disappointment of the night.

Based on the reviews it doesn't seem like a pity win, I am also not sure that the Tony voters really knew much about his personal life. I suppose it is possible though.

If anyone won over Danny, I'm glad that it was Steve Kazee.
So I can live with that.

The biggest robbing of the night for me was Audra and P&B winning over Jan and Follies.

I expected Audra to win (though I was rooting hard for Jan), and I expected Follies to win revival. I could have lived with that. But to have Audra win and P&B win best revival. I'm seriously crying right now!

I saw a video clip of Burstein doing that number on Broadway, and wasn't all that impressed. However, when I saw it in person last month it blew me away. It felt a lot bigger and impressive. I got caught up in the moment when it was live.
I thought it was an odd choice of song to represent the show in the Tony Awards - it needs the context of the musical.

I agree: Danny got robbed.

Yeah, without context it was a very bizarre song choice. People I was watching with were very confused.

That said, I personally was rooting for Steve Kazee and am glad he won.

I didn't love or hate Danny Burstein in Follies. I adored Steve Kazee in Once. I thought Kazee did such a good job with the material, and I think he deserved the Tony—much like last year, how Norbert Leo Butz did a great job, but was afflicted by tragedy. I don't think either won a pity Tony, I think they won Tonys because they are talented and deserved them. I'm sure they did get some pity votes, but they both turned in wonderful, affecting performances.

Mrs. Kazee's passing cost Danny the Tony

I've read things around here. This is idiotic, mean, stupid. I have no words. You're an idiot.

Well based on his Tony performance, perhaps the Pork Industry can award Mr Burstein for being a big ole Hambone.

I forgot to mention that I thought the awkward camera angles really hurt the performance of "Buddy's Blues" more than the performances from any of the other shows. It was distracting. Did any1 else think that?

Keb2. I completely agree with you. I thought Steve Kazee was wonderful in Once and deserved the Tony. I saw both Follies and Once and while I enjoyed Follies, I found Once to be much more affecting and it stayed with me emotionally. While I always enjoy Burstein and know his performance was taken out of context last night, that song did absolutely nothing to make me think he deserved the Tony over Kazee. I agree with those who think Danny should have been in the featured category. He would have definitely won if he was.
