It says, if their contracts stay the same, that the show won't close until late March.

Couldn't this have just gone in the OTHER thread?
And shows close all the time mid-contract. MEans nothing.
I find it hard to believe that Danza will last very long. This is a physically and vocally demanding role and he is basically a cabaret singer. Can't see him hitting the rafters or having the physical stamina to last until March.
But, welcome back, Roger!!!!
Well, one always hopes that no show will close oon. But that's simply not always the ase.

I'm surprised it's closing. What, everyone wanted to see Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick and then lost interest?

I might go see this during my winter break from school in January. I'm interested in seeing Danza, but I really want to see Roger Bart. I've only seen him once as Leo and that was two years ago and the last show I saw him in was The Frogs and that was also two years ago.
Each time they announce Roger Bart coming back to The Producers, I keep saying to myself, I should definetely go back there and see him again, but alas I haven't.
The show will hopefully stay open long enough so that Young Frankenstein can move in.
The show had no intentions of closing soon.
That's actually perfect for Brooks. He signed actors that will draw a reasonable crowd into the Spring.
Giving them time to play out their contracts and close the show in time to bring in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN by Halloween, which is Brooks' intention.
Are they going to have to rewrite the lyrics, "Gimme those books, fat fat fatty, gimme those books, fat fat fatty..."?

Giant f***ing mistake if I do say so myself. Danza will close the show in one piece. Is Stro crazy or something?
((Hears news of Roger Bart's return))
HOORAY!!
((Hears news of Tony Danza coming))
So, what? The world has decided it's time to go to hell??
WHY!?!
((Remembers Hasslehoff news))
I want to throw up...
It just seems so... random.
That's the first thing that struck me too.
"Tony Danza" is just one of those random names.

Tony will be great in this role, he has been around the biz in different venues,
plus he is in good physical condition - - - therefore, shooting down the
stamina theory. I'm not worried at all - - - good luck to him. I will be there to
cheer him on.
My biggest worry is that he won't make the character as mean as it needs to be. I mean, Danza the kind of performer who wears his heart on his sleeve, I can't can't imagine him playing up the arsehole within.
Now Danza as Bloom as against Danny DeVito as Bialystock? That, I would be first in line. TAXI reunion!
PS...anyone hoping Danny Pintauro will play Carmen Ghia?
They're desperate for a name in the show to keep it going as long as possible. Danza will put people in the seats for a few months and then the show will likely close sometime in the spring.

Danny Devito as Bialy is a great idea!
I could see other people who they could bring in to play Bialy to make money like:
Jason Alexander
Danny Devito
Harvey Fierstein
Larry David
Gary Beach (ok not a money maker but still!)
and I can't beleive it's closing! The biggest hit in broadway history can't out last RENT, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, and Phantom?
Why didn't they bring Hasselhoff in for the broadway version?

*Tear* WHY??
Because too many people have no respect for Hasslehoff as an actor.
Well, I'm in that set but whose counting =).
Gary is right across the street though, haha, and enough people come to see him and get an autograph after they see The Producers anyhow.
I wish they could get everybody back there , that would keep it up longer for sure.
Sigh, I can't believe it's closing in March.

Hasslehoff is one of the most watched actors on earth. Although he's not the best actor ever he would bring in serious $$$ And I think he would be a great Roger! He has the look, the sct, and he can sing decently!
So not excited about this
no funny anymore! needs to close. it is coming to an end because they are doing star casting. but either way good luck!
Sorry, Kooky, but being in good general physical condition is not the same as playing the role of Max 8 times a week. Nor does that mean he has the vocal stamina to do the role.
This show has always been fairly impossible to cast for the role of Max. That is why they never really had the crowds they drew after Lane and Broderick left. Leo is easier to cast but Max requires someone who can do the physical and vocal work for nearly three hours, spend most of the time on stage and carry the role with a presence and charisma.

I wonder how they're going to justify the "Fat, fat, fatty...." line. There is nothing fat about Danza.

This casting is a giant f***ing mistake if I do say so myself.
