Dave Malloy's Moby Dick at A.R.T.

Did I read somewhere that it's going to the Public after Boston? I just saw a terrific production of PRELUDES in London and am so excited about this new work.

I'm seeing the third or fourth preview (I'm not sure, but the date is December 6th) and i'm SO excited. Pro-tip for people who are students (and/or people who still have access to a .edu email and a Student ID) - Get an A.R.T. Student Membership. Even if this is the only show you'll see there, it's worth it. The membership is 10 dollars and the tix are ALL 15 dollars, for ANY SEAT at ANY PERFORMANCE of ANY SHOW. Needless to say, I'll probably see it more than once because of this. I was able to snag Six and Moby-Dick tickets for $40 total thanks to the deal (Membership fee included - technically the tickets were only $30 total). I swear this isn't a paid promotion or anything lol, I'm just surprised at the amount of people who don't know about this!

Anyway, on to the topic of the show itself - I'm so excited. I'll be sitting in the "StarBoard" section of The Pequod, and judging by the A.R.T. map, they've rearranged the theatre to be in-the-round. Doesn't surprise me, as I don't think that Dave Malloy has done one singular show that has 100% traditional seating or staging.
I've also been following the cast/cast on Instagram, and judging from rehearsal snippets, this is going to be a four-hour-long magnum opus. Perhaps even more epic than COMET. I'm most excited to see Manik Choksi as Ishmael, and "StarrBucksby", or Starr Busby as Starbuck ♥︎♥︎. I'm not sure if this will be able to transfer due to the weirdness factors (then again, we said the same thing about COMET), so I'd definitely advise everyone to hop on the A.R.T. deals, assuming it's not sold out already!

Definitely expect this to show up at The Public next season.

Thank goodness you posted this. I went to check and see what seats were available for the show I purchased tickets for when they first went on sale (Dec 27th at 2 pm) and saw that that show was no longer listed for some reason. I called the box office and it turns out they canceled that show. The woman I spoke to said it happened like an hour prior (she wasn't sure why). They happily exchanged my tickets for the day earlier and when she asked where I wanted to sit I said I would love the "wet deck". She said, "that's great, our subscribers really don't want to sit there" and gave me the "best seats in the wet deck" which according to her was B 18 & 19. So if anyone is looking for a good seat that is what that box office is saying!

I'm in B11 and 12 for 12/6....Very excited.



I'm a ticket subscriber, and originally tix were listed as general admission, but they'd asked if we were interested in either interactive or participation seats (they didn't know which, if either would happen). My son and I were up for anything. About two weeks ago, I got an email showing tix had been exchanged for assigned seats....but no info about the seating chart, so nice to now have the complete info.

Thanks for pointing this out! I did, in fact, mean the $25 tier. I went to the website to take a look, and from the handful of dates that still have $25 tix left, it looks like they will be in the front row on the side sections. I will be very happy if that's where I end up! But since there are so few $25 seats available, it's difficult to tell if maybe they were also scattered throughout the house - some of them might also be in the partial view section, and they just aren't showing up because they've already been purchased. My mentality here is: hope for the best, expect the worst. Especially with such a low-priced ticket. But now I have somewhat more hope of a better seat!

No, this is a thrust stage configuration, at least from what I'm seeing- seats only on 3 sides. The Pequod (for those that do t have access to the seating chart) comes from the traditional stage over(?) the center section of the front seating area. I know the seats in that section are all easily removable.

The final Moby Dick performance is January 12 and another production opens at The Loeb Drama Center on January 24 so considering load-out, rehearsal time, etc. it wouldn't be possible for it to extend.
