This from today's National Post...
"Unfortunately, two months of Sweeney Todd have taken their toll on Hess, and yesterday it was announced that he was on vocal leave. The role of Sweeney Todd will be played by David Garry until further notice..."
I am attending the press night for SWEENEY tomorrow (Wednesday, 7th) and will report back on that. Just did an interview with Judy Kaye who is charming and funny as always.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Have no fear, David Garry (despite a few early mishaps) was excellent when I saw the show in Boston on Halloween.
Per House Manager at Colonial - he was out sick for 1 week. He was out from 10/30 till 11/4 (last show at Boston)
I saw the show twice here in Boston 10/31 & 11/4 and he was out both times. I guess I miss him. Unfortunately.. I can't catch him in Toronto.
I might actually post my 10/10 Report on Sweeney Todd- the touring company bec. I have stage door pics from last performance here in Boston with all the cast members..
probably?

David Garry might STILL be performing as Sweeney Todd in Toronto too. I spoke to some cast members here in Boston last Sunday.. hopefully they are hoping that David Hess will be back soon.

David Hess was excellent, though I'd love to see David Garry.

That's unfortunate to hear about David Hess. I saw the show in SF and loved his performance.
If the fact that you have stage door pictures is the reason why you'd go ahead and post your thoughts on the show, well, that makes me worry.
ANYway, I hope he's well soon. I saw him at the Judge on Broadway and he was great.
^^^ well you always have an option not to read it..dont worry I DONT have any pictures with the cast... only the cast
and that's not the reason why I am writting my reports .. because I LOVE watching shows postings my views and hear feedbacks and learn from other people here

Well, I would like to know what you thought of the production. I'm just saying that I don't understand why whether or not you post your thoughts on the SHOW should be contingent upon whether or not you have stage door photos to go with. What's it really about?

Oh? Really?
Then it must've been someone else who typed this post in your name, right?

That you might post it because you have stage door pictures.
Um, okay. Sure.
Major pet peeve.
Okay
I don't stage door a lot. I have no stage door pics on Farnworth Invention & The Seafarer but I still post my thoughts.

Haven't you heard Emcee...Musicals/Plays are so only Oklahoma to The Producers. Now its about the Stagedoor performance. Think, it's free, you can take all the photos you want. Get things signed, Meet famous people. No one cares if you Saw Jennifer Garner in Cyrano, they care if you MET Jennifer Garner. That's what a show is really about these days..no?
Does that mean I should expect Jennifer Garner to sing and dance for me AT the stage door?
Sweet.
Reviews of the stage door are ALWAYS much more important than those of the show.
Does that mean I should expect Jennifer Garner to sing and dance for me AT the stage door?
She might

personally knowing jennifer..i wouldn't bet on it. lol
She hasn't done a MUSICAL since Oklahoma.
Ok anyway...
If David Hess is out permanently does anyone know who they might hire on to serve as an understudy? David Garry was the over cover for Sweeney and the Judge. Edwin Cahill has Anthony, Toby, The Beadle and Fogg covered.
Totally sarcasm. =P
hehe.
and just to go on record...Don't get me wrong, I stagedoor as well, and yeah, i get my progams signed and snap some pictures, but they're for ME. And I NEVER would base posting my review or not soley on if i had pictures from the stagedoor lol. MADNESS.
BUT while the words have come up. I believe I will start a new thread...
I hope that Hess gets well soon, but based on the two performances of the tour that I saw, the role of Sweeney is in better hands this way.
I just hope that Keith Butterbaugh doesn't get sick/have a vacation until they can find someone to cover the judge.
Oh, absolutey, I certainly do it, too, it's just a matter of how much stock you place in that part of the experience. Like, deciding whether or not to see a show based on how nice the actors are at the stage door, as someone wrote that they do just last week.
I was about to suggest Merwin Foard, but then I did a check and found that he's in The Little Mermaid. Good for him, bad for my suggestion.

Alex Gemignani? People should stop giving tenors this role. Bass-baritones need work!
