Deanna Dunagan's odds of winning a TONY for her work in August?
Deanna Dunagan's odds of winning a TONY for her work in August?#1
Posted: 3/31/08 at 10:05pmWhat do you think her odds of winning a TONY for her work in August are? I saw the show for the second time last week and loved her performance in it. One of the best performances by an actress I have seen in a play in a long time.

Posted: 3/31/08 at 10:16pmBased on the shows that I have seen, I would have to say that she has a very good chance of taking home a Tony. But, that is just my opinion.

Posted: 3/31/08 at 10:22pmBased on her performance last week, I think she definitely deserves the Tony Award for her performance. I missed Amy Morton, but her understudy, Dee Pelletier, was great!

Although I pretty much loved both of the performances given by Amy and Deanna, I left hoping and still do hope that it goes to Morton. However, Violet is a much showier role I think so who knows?

What's the chance of one of them being nominated for lead, the other as featured, and they both win?
That dinner scene at the end of act 2 still gives me chills.
"You're a drug addict."
"That is the truth!" That part alone deserves a TONY.
They were both amazing and if it was up to me, they'd both win, but Deanna Dunagan had me in tears at the end of all three acts.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 12:25amIt's completely cruel- both are so fabulous. I'd give it to Morton, but I am afraid that they'll split the vote which would be extremely disappointing.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 1:01amIt's the producers' faults. Both women were below the title, so it was the producers' choice to petition them both to be considered Leading. Not a smart move.

I dont think it was a smart move to make them compete together either, because I honestly see that vote being split right in two. They were both good, but I'd be happy if
S. Epatha Merkerson
won for her incredible work she did in SHEBA!
If anybody won for August though, i'd perfer Dunagan. Morton doesnt register with me at all.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 1:42amI've always felt like Barbara is a much more intriguing character than Violet, actually. Don't get me wrong, Violet's got a lot of skeletons in her closet that Dunagan handles beautifully, but I love Barbara and hope the Tony goes to Morton.

It will be someone from AUGUST. Just like last year we knew that someone from COAST OF UTOPIA (the AUGUST of this year in terms of accolades, buzz, and hit status) would win both featured acting awards regardless of the fact that two performers from the show were nominated in each category, this year the Best Leading Actress in a Play award will go to either Morton or Dunagan.
Dunagan won the Jeff Award in Chicago over Morton. I guess the Drama Desks and OCC Awards will tell us a bit more about what to expect come Tony night.
I'm not seeing the play until the week before Tony week so I can't really give much of an opinion, but most people on the board seem to think the Tony is Morton's to lose.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 6:45amI think it will go to her co-star Amy Morton, but Dunagan could very well win. She was fabulous, with some priceless line deliveries.

Posted: 4/1/08 at 9:21amShe definitely has a very solid shot at winning it, her only problem is that I think Amy Morton was just a bit more brilliant than she was in the same show. I'd definitely give it to Morton.

With that writing, let's just hope the play wins.
I don't see how it couldn't.
Morton's performance was the most compelling I've ever seen on stage.

My vote would go to Amy Morton.
If the producers only petitioned one of them for Leading Actress, they would have both won. O well...
