Right. But you're also the one who excused behavior on SMASH because it "looked glamorous."
And while I suppose you could separate the talent from a person and just view the talent, that's not how the world works. The world (and the theatre industry) doesn't operate in a vacuum. WHO you are will inevitably impact your talent. You are having trouble accepting that, it seems.
Let's say there are two actors: #1 is incredibly talented but has a terrible ego and attitude, #2 is talented (though not on the same level of #1) but is an absolute joy and pleasure to work with. Can you tell me who will get cast probably 90% of the time?

SMASH is FICTION!
I directed in High School and I had to work with many #1s and #2s. While many times I tried working with #2 simply because I couldn't stand #1, ultimaltely I always ended with #1 because that was what worked for the show. I was able to set the personal differences aside in order to put on the best show that I possibly could. I realize that not everyone works like that, and for many people in the industry the behavior is more important than the talent, and that is perfectly ok as well. This is just my opinion.

What else was she supposed to do? It was simply damage control. It came off insincere, too.
I agree--I don't think she would have apologized had Hailee Steinfeld stayed unknown.

Steinfeld was not an Oscar-nominee at the time of that event. She'd done some TV, but True Grit was her first film and major role.
I know that Steinfeld was not a nominee at the time and that TRUE GRIT was her big break, I was simply saying that Steinfeld got the better end of that stick, she went on to become an Oscar nominee while Michele will probably never get to that level. And yes, the only reason Michele apologized to Steinfeld was to manage the bad publicity around her.
Here's what Joan Rivers had to say when asked to make a joke about Lea Michele last week (and I paraphrase): she's just like a penny, she's two-faced and completely worthless...love it!
