broadway guy, I believe that she turned it down because the show needed a replacement at the same time that she was getting ready to do the 25th Anniversary run for Phantom. That was a major conflict. They would have had to cast a transition Eva to get Sierra.

I actually feel sorta bad for not liking Elena cause she put her own spin on this iconic role and i appreciate that but i just disliked her Eva. She isn't a singer she is an actress and they should have casted a singer for this role. I liked Elena's Acting but Evita has some pretty tough songs to sing and Elena just sounded like nails on a chalk board with most of them. Her "Buenos Aires" lacked vocal control and power and Her "A new Argentina" is something i always have to skip on the cast recording. Its just to painful to listen too. I like her "Rainbow High" though.

Yeah That makes sense.

I still would have loved to see Sierra as Eva. Or at least see her in Prince of Broadway.

Sierra just seems all wrong to Play Evita. I have no doubt she could do it and she would probably knock it out of the park but I don't really think her voice would really fit the score. But yeah, I would still love to hear her sing some songs from it.

Are you talking about Lea or Sierra?

I meant Lea. Sierra's vocals aren't up to par--her voice seems pretty damaged from The Little Mermaid, IMO.

If we're going for a strong vocalist first, I'd much rather they cast someone like Mandy Gonzalez.

"Sierra's vocals aren't up to par--her voice seems pretty damaged from The Little Mermaid, IMO."

Her vocals aren't damaged at all. She has done Les Mis and Phantom since TLM and her voice is beautiful as it always is IMO. On the contrary, I think Sierra IS a strong vocalist. She has an incredible range. She can sing very high soprano for POTO when she wants and also can do very challenging low notes in Les Mis. She can also belted like a Mofo in TLM. I also don't think its fair to say she isn't a strong vocalist when we have never actually have heard her sing anything from EVITA. For all we know her "A NEW ARGENTINA" could blow the roof off. I also heard she sings the last high note of POTO regularly.

" I'd much rather they cast someone like Mandy Gonzalez."

I would love to see Mandy Play Evita. The recording of her doing "rainbow high" is phenomenal. They should have Casted her instead of Elena.

I feel like Sierra's voice in this role would be the meet in the middle between Decicco's vocal performance and the more Patti/Mandy style.

I definitely agree Visceral_Fella. I imagine her sounding very lyrical but at the same time having the vocal power that Lupone had. At the same time, Playing Evita would probably take a bit of a toll on her voice and I don't want to see Sierra's voice get shredded by the vocal demands.

I know, I've heard Sierra sing high notes and she has this thin tone that sounds like it's the result of vocal damage. Other sopranos that I know have commented on it.

She still sounds good, but Evita is EXTREMELY hard on the vocals and I don't think her voice would be up to it.

What Broadway sopranos do you know? It was that Laura Osnes chick wasn't it?! HAHA Im just messing around with you. I am not a vocal expert so I have no idea if Sierra is suffering from vocal damage but If she IS then she is definitely treating it cause she sounds beautiful. We will have to agree to disagree on this one cause i love her high notes. They sound gorgeous IMO.

"She still sounds good, but Evita is EXTREMELY hard on the vocals and I don't think her voice would be up to it."

Evita is extremely hard to sing and I think Sierra's voice would be up to the challenge but I wouldn't want her to risk her voice getting shredded by the score. But if she sang a couple songs for a concert I would be in heaven.

Not that I think she's right for Eva but I have to laugh at the thought of any one of the other women mentioned in this thread being anywhere near as talented as Lea Michele.

Jordan that is just rude. Did Lea pee in your cheerios or something? You are acting like a 10 year old when you talk about her and frankly its just pathetic. You aren't in middle school anymore, grow up. I have no problem if you don't like her but the things you say about her are just over the top and plain cruel. You antagonize me about being childish on here but you are the one acting like a 12 year old whenever someone mentions Lea's name. You talk so highly about the Broadway community and yet you act so unprofessional towards one of its members. Its ridiculousness.

I don't say anything about her that almost anyone else who's ever had to work with her (like myself) says about her. I know she's your OMIGODIDOL but you truly prove your immaturity when it comes to defending this disgusting woman. And just because someone is a "member" of the Broadway community, that doesn't mean they get my respect. Respect is something that's earned and is not automatically earned when you get your Equity card. Maybe when your balls drop and your voice changes, you'll learn that. Child.

Michele dumped the Broadway community as soon as she got a better offer. She'll only come back if she gets a better one.

Have you ever worked with her? Or do you only know her from Glee and a bootleg of Spring Awakening?

She has a reputation. Bring up her name at any event with industry and the response is always the same.

But you wouldn't know that. The people here who inexplicably bow and scrape for here have no ****ing clue.

And it's friggin' laughable you're clutching your pearls about the affront that was Jordan's comment. Get a clue. Get a grip. Grow up.

She didn't "dump" the Broadway community she did what she thought she should do to better her Career. Heather Hadley did that for a few years also. God Forbid She does a TV show for a couple years.

Have you worked with her? No I don't just know her just from Glee, She has been on Broadway Since she was a little girl.

"She has a reputation. Bring up her name at any event with industry and the response is always the same."

There are plenty of DIVAS on Broadway, Its not like Lea is freaking Satan or anything. I wouldn't bow or scrape for her or whatever I just think its completely moronic how Jordan talks about someone so childishly on here. There is a line.

"I know she's your OMIGODIDOL but you truly prove your immaturity when it comes to defending this disgusting woman."

WOW could you be any more unprofessional? I don't idolize Lea but its ridiculous how you talk about her. Even if she was as bad as you say she is, YOU look like an idiot when you go on some message board and talk crap about her. By doing that you look worse than she does. It doesn't matter if you have worked with her or not you should still respect others people in the Broadway community and if you can't at least do that then just stop talking about her cause no one will take you seriously if you come off as this jealous trash you are coming off as of right now. I have never worked with Lea so I have no idea how she acts but Its completely unprofessional how you treat Broadway performers. You remind of Hunter foster when he said all the crap after CZJ won he tony award. Grow up!

You act as though Michele has some lustrous list of Broadway credits. She was a child actor in Les Mis and Ragtime. She was then Shprintze, the daughter everyone forgets about in Fiddler. Then she was Wendla. End of list.

You saw her work in all those memorable performances?

*sigh*

Seriously, you need to just stop. Your arguments make absolutely no sense.

There is a difference between a DIVA (as you call her) and a BITCH. Patti LuPone is a Diva. She is talked about with the utmost respect in the community. Lea Michele is a BITCH. She is talked about with nothing but disdain in the community. I have put absolutely nothing "childish" on here. I am stating facts and grown up, big-boy opinions about someone I have first hand knowledge about. I am in no way being like Hunter Foster and that crowd when discussing her. Foster was upset because Jones was a movie star who was in his "turf". Michele is an actress who from the time she was a little girl on the stage has been known to be nothing but vile. These are not just my own "unprofessional" opinions. These are facts and well known around town and mirrored by pretty much every single person she comes in contact with.

So please, child. Stop telling the grown ups to grow up until you have the facts to back up your "grow up" statements which (coming from you) will never mean anything.

The thing about Lea Michele is that she is a supremely talented actress and singer but Glee has ruined any chance of her ever being taken seriously again in the New York theatre community. Any production that stunt-casts Lea will be subjected to a whole lot of crazy. I can't see myself taking any production seriously that would choose to use Lea Michele over someone like Sierra Boggess.

I don't even think it's vocal damage with Sierra. I just think she has a lighter tone in her upper range. She has the notes and she's been trained to use them; they're just not her strongest. I remember her slipping into that kind of head voice early in The Little Mermaid run during the voice stealing scene and some of the other soprano moments. She belted the signature songs and pulled back some on the new material where she could.

As for Lea, I think it would have been bad casting. Not Ricky Martin bad, but pretty close. More like Laura Osnes as Rizzo bad. Unsuited and ill-equipped for the role in type and style. Sure, she could probably get through the show eight times a week, but that doesn't mean it would be the right part for her.

There was that great video of Sara Ramirez singing Rainbow High at a concert or club or something that made the rounds a year or two ago. She sounded strong on the song, but had to read every word off the page. It fit her range nicely and she played the style well. I don't know if she could sing that full score eight times a week, but it could have been interesting replacement casting.

HA! coming from the over grown man child who feels the need to act like a complete neanderthal because a 20 year old was mean to him. Have you worked with Lea? What are all these HORRIBLE things that she has done?

The FACT is People are tough in the business and you either get use to it or you quit. If she is so "hated" in the industry than why did she sing "Dont rain on my.." at the TONY'S? If she is so hated then why would producers consider her to play Evita? If the Broadway community hate her so much than why do i constantly see her in pictures with Idina Menzel, Cheno and other prominent Broadway stars. The fact is she was mean to you and then you acted like an idiot and got mad and overreacted and started posting crap about like a hater wannabee. I can't Imagine why anyone would invite you to industry parties when you act like such a trashy queen all the time on here. I'm sorry if Lea was mean to you when you "worked" for her or whatever but have you ever heard the phrase "let it go" or "move on"? Geesh
