Posted: 12/14/12 at 5:58pmI bet she can't believe she had to turn that down... Any of these people would've been great, IMO. But, still... Mandy Gonzales, y'all!!!!

^I think she has the "ice queen" aspect down.
#5Dear God, They Wanted Lea Michele For EVITA
Posted: 12/14/12 at 6:03pmI could imagine watching her do that ridiculous wide-eyed, open-mouth thing that she always does for an entire show.
#6Dear God, They Wanted Lea Michele For EVITA
Posted: 12/14/12 at 6:03pmI would have killed to see Sierra Boggess play Eva.
#7Dear God, They Wanted Lea Michele For EVITA
Posted: 12/14/12 at 6:05pmI don't think Boggess is right for it, but I still would have been there every night if she was cast.

Boggess and Lea Michele were the TV actress and Broadway talent pool I was talking about in the other thread.
I can tell you Naya Rivera was on the list at one time. I'm not sure how serious it was but she was mentioned.

Posted: 12/14/12 at 6:11pmI think it's better off for this show to close than if it had continued with Lea Michele as Eva.

Posted: 12/14/12 at 6:14pmGlad this didn't happen. And the poor thing would have to be off Glee for awhile if it did. Which is probably a reason it didn't.

Posted: 12/14/12 at 6:15pmShe really isn't on Glee that much and shoots 50% of her scenes in NY. Say what you want, but she would have sold tickets.
#12Dear God, They Wanted Lea Michele For EVITA
Posted: 12/14/12 at 6:17pmI don't doubt she wouldn't. And I have seen her on Glee a lot more than some of the other characters that graduated last year.

Posted: 12/14/12 at 6:25pmTo those that are bummed about Sierra, I know in the workshops and the presentation that was held a month or two ago, she sang Buenos Aires under Prince's direction in PRINCE OF BROADWAY, and that is coming in next season...so silver lining?

That article has the answer to the investment. They rather hope to make it back with the money they already put in, than to spend more in replacements.
That means that most of the well known celebrities had zero interest in doing a replacement gig.

Posted: 12/14/12 at 6:46pmIf they had cast Ramin Karimloo as Che and kept Max Von Essen as Magaldi that would be my dream. Lea as Evita....not so much but the other two would keep me distracted enough that I don't think I'd even notice her.

I think Lea Michele's holding out for a Funny Girl revival. And I don't think Lea Michele is right for Evita anyway. She doesn't project the gravitas that a woman would need to make people think of her as a saint. I mean can you really see children singing "Please mother Eva" to Lea Michele?

#20Dear God, They Wanted Lea Michele For EVITA
Posted: 12/14/12 at 7:15pmFrom what I hear, Sierra was the most serious contender and she turned down the offer made to her. Lea was not being seriously considered.

I'm bummed Sierra turned it down, especially since PRINCE OF BROADWAY is in limbo and EVER AFTER seems pretty dead. If you guys don't think she's a belter, she has played Fantine and did use much more of her chest voice as Ariel. I think Lea, with good direction, could have been pretty good - she can belt her face off and bitch at people well. She would have sold tickets. And honestly, in some form, Naya Rivera needs to be on Broadway. I would love her in a KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN revival, but as Eva I would have been fine.
What if Antonio was Peron and Raul was Che? Add in Sierra as Eva and I think it would have lasted at least until summer.

Even with Ricky still in it, sales have been plummeting. I don't think it would have survived regardless who took over.
@Kelly2 Same thing with Karimloo. The article stated that producers decided against casting the pair but from what I've heard it was the two actors that turned down the offers.

Posted: 12/14/12 at 8:19pmYou'd be there every night, Jordan? How independently wealthy are you people?? That's close to $800 a week, even with discounts. This board never ceases to amaze. In my next life, I will be a trust fund baby like the rest of you.
