And dear mr Brooks, please dont bring this show to the UK
Okay, but they'll only bring it over if they can kick a current show out of it's barn. How about Wicked?

^I don't see 'Billy Elliot' having that long of a shelf life in Melbourne.
Kylie Minogue was my stunt casting but she could do this small role and work well with Jackman.
I agree that BE won't last long in Melbourne, didn't do that well in Sydney. I personally am not a fan of BE.
And I'd be more than happy to kick out Wicked and bring it to Sydney and I can save all that money on airfares.

'Wicked' is bigger then John So at the moment. It is staying around for a while. :)
I know Urban - but I can dream LOL .
I have already got tickets for my next two visits as I don't think it will leave Melbourne for at least another 18 months.

BE is being advertised as a strictly limited run in Melbourne, so it defiantly won't be around for long.
BILLY ELLIOTT will do terrific business in Melbourne. Remember it is only in for 26 weeks (with room for a small extension), it is in a smaller theatre than Sydney's Capital. WICKED should be out of the Regent late 2009 to make way for (the mooted) 9 TO 5.
brettystar I doubt you'll ever see YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (in its present form) in Australia.
Kylie will unfortunately be busy with the musical she's currently writing about herself though.
I can't wait for the clash of the Titans!
Wicked-Jersey Boys-Billy Elliot!
Won't be as much as before with Jersey Boys pulling back a lil...but still!
And now August: Osage County (not musical I know...but still!)
Next year is going to be fantastic!
I don't think we'll see 9 to 5 in Australia for years if at all.
YF would do really well here I think. I know it probably won't happen but I wish it would.
I can't see AOC working well here. I found it to be a very American play and although I really enjoyed it I think it would be lost on an Australian audience.
According to another Australian poster here, 9 to 5 is practically a done deal. Expect an announcement before Christmas.
I will wait with baited breath alterego. I would like to see the show. I just find it surprising that a show would be announced before it has made money elsewhere is all.
You have no idea how lucky you are to not have Young Frankenstein.
I really loved it when I saw it. I saw 9 shows in 6 days and this was much better than I was expecting. I enjoyed it much more than some of the other shows I saw.
I wasn't a big fan of The Producers though and I know a lot of people thought it was similar.
I only paid $110 for fourth row center in the stalls and would have been angry if I had paid $450.
It is a true blockbuster musical with big sets, big numbers and lots of laughs.
I also love the film.
If you didn't like THE PRODUCERS (which the masses embraced and loved), then you're going to be highly disappointed with YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (which the masses loathed and disliked).
I enjoyed THE PRODUCERS several times on Broadway. I was saddened with the outcome of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN -- boring, boring, boring in every way possible. Aside from the handful of clever moments, it just fell flat.
Now... I'm a huge fan of the original film. The musical version tries to emulate it a bit too much, which doesn't work. At least with THE PRODUCERS, they took the plot elements of the original film and expanded upon it... therefore it was a bit different from the film. YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN uses too many of the film's gags and jokes, which wasn't a smart move.
I disagree BrodyFosee123, as I said I didn't really like The Producers but I loved Young Frankenstein.
Some of the scenes between B and B in their office just go on and on and on in my opinion.
I do think that expectations have something to do with it though, and I can see that if someone loved The Producers (as the masses did) then they would be expecting big things from Young Frankenstein.

I really don't dislike shows, I did not like Young Frankenstein. I feel it would have been a much better straight play (with the exception of "Puttin' on the Ritz").
Let your theaters be used for something else. Maybe Hairspray?
I love Hairspray but I would be very surprised if it would ever be done here.
Australia does not have a large Afro American population at all, let alone actors/actresses. My understanding is that it is very very difficult for Actors Equity (the Actors Union) to allow international actors to take parts from Australian actors so it is kind of a hard situation.
Black actors have been brought in to Australia for shows for decades so that isn't an issue. There wouldn't be an issue with Equity at all. For a show that would employ so many others it would be given the OK quick smart. Even if Equity gave the importation the thumbs down the producer just needs to go to immigration and get a standard temporary work visa. It would be approved. Easy.
Please enlighten me with all these shows that have had at least 7 or 8 black actors alterego.

Does anyone else find it as amusing as I do when political correctness runs rampant and ALL black people end up described as African Americans, whether they're from America or not?
And let's not get start on South African Americans, who are legitimately African American, but as white as they come... XD
