Looking at the photo of Margaret Hamilton makes me think any of the women who have played Madame Morrible in WICKED could easily step into this role....but who is a big enough name?

Brody, I think acting on TV is a little different than performing live or even on a panel like Chelsea Lately.

I'm ALL for Blythe Danner, Cloris Leachman, Maggie Smith, and Shirley. Great ideas.
Also, I know her health is very poor, but Rue Mclanahan would be very interesting as well.
Leachman seemed very lucid and put-together when she appeared on the roast of Bob Saget a year or so again.
Perhaps Cloris Leachman really needs a script and direction to bring out her best work.
I know she's a little too young, but I'd really like to see what Daphne Rubin-Vega would bring to the role.

Of course, they are talking with any actresses of the right age and fame to replace Dame Angela and Mrs. Douglas because they are the ones selling the tickets.
No flames please, ALNM is a near-perfect show, with a score to kill for. BUT. Despite it is Sondheim and he is 80 and we should all love him ... it is selling out because of those two women. And when they leave those grosses are going to plummet.
Elaine Stritch please haha

Shirley Jones is the only real candidate, in my opinion.
She would actually make me want to see this misconceived mess.
^ Misconceived mess? I didn't realize this thread was about Promises, Promises!!

Perhaps that's because you don't recognize opinions outside of your own?
Prove it. I usually always state when something is my own opinion. I am always game for a passionate argument, but I have always been open to other opinions.

Well, at least sometimes. ;-}
If Shirley Jones is cast, would she try to have the key of Liaisons transposed up? Judging by her recent solo concerts, she seems to be under the impression that she's still a soprano.

Dame Edna?
Paula Dean?
"Lee-a-zuns, Y'all. What's happen'd to 'em?"
Bobbie! Stay outta Mama's old Playgirls!
Awwwwwww, I love Paula. I'd go see it! That idea makes me smile. :)
With Ashley Judd as Desiree?
Transposed to the South?
If Ashley Judd even stepped foot NEAR a Broadway stage again I would be forced to fork over every penny in my bank account to see her. My love for her should be illegal.
Powla Dueeen
Now that's good casting.
"At thuh payaluss of the Deeewk of Feyrah-rah,
Whar ah spayent uh sumwhutt eeyuhnfuhmuss yuheeeeaaaar ..."
Are your phonetic spellings brilliant!
I will smile about "Deeewk" and "sumwhutt" the rest of the day!
Wouldn't you love to hear her read the infamous "bosom" line to Fredericka?
Best12, take it away...
For Auggie---
"Don't skuhweeez yur buzzuhms uhgeeeinst thuh chayer, deeeuhr,
Iddle stunt theyar garowth! Ayand theeuhn whar wood jew buueey?"
