Any ideas???
It's already rumoured Ephalba in Wicked.
Please spare me the humour and go post in the I hate DG topic or start your own, serious replies only... :)

I think Deborah has actually made a respectable name for herself in the theatre. I'm not sure if I see her as Elpheba, but I would go see her in it.
chris,
where exactly did this rumour start?
IMO Debbie Gibson has made a good name for herself in theatre. a friend of mine saw her about 10 years ago in Grease in London and said she was wonderful. i would have loved to see her in the production of GYPSY she did at the Papermill a couple of years back alongside Betty Buckley.
Whatever role this is I hope she does well in it.
I think she might make a good Ruth Sherwood in Wonderful Town...any thoughts?

She said on the radio this past w/e.
She is up for a "new major role on Broadway" the biggest of her career.
Possibly it's a show in the works and not currently running.
Sounds exciting none the less.

She'd be a good Elphie...she'd at least belt the hell out of those songs
i liked the songs she wrote for beautiful girl
I can't see her as Elphie, but as I said, I could see her as Ruth.
You know who I'd like to see as Ruth... Maya Rudolph.
I loved her in Brigadoon..
if DEBORAH Gibson can pull off Sally Bowles as well as she did, she can handle Elphaba just fine. I haven't heard her sing recently but if that's up to snuff, the acting for that role is basically just spike marks and residual arm motions anyway.

She's been announced for the tour of "Broadway on Ice" which pairs Broadway stars with ice-skaters - is that what you are referring to?
Deborah Gibson will get hired to play Elphaba, right around the time they ask Chenoweth to do the role...Are you people getting soft, or are you all high? Gibson, as I've said, much to Namo's dismay, could not even convincingly smoke a cigarette as Velma Kelly at North Shore. You think she could tackle the edge and depth of the Elphaba role? I don't love the show, but I know a good, Tony worthy *role* when I see one. Gibson, along with dozens of other "actresses", probably landed an *audition* for the role, and decided to blow it out of proportion bc she has somewhat of a name. This is an old trick used across the entertainment board. She's hoping the producers of the show are reading this, or listened to her radio interview, and that it's going to "twist their arms" in to hiring her. Which is more than unlikely. Actually it's laughable.

She's played everybody Belle, Cinderella, Gypsy, Eponine, Roxy, Velma, and had great runs for all but only Fanny in Funny Girl though I heard she was great in it as well. She's proven herself and made her mark like it or not, why anyone wants to doubt the great DG is beyond me. Anyways, the Broadway On Ice with her rumoured to be strapping on skates herself as well as singing, and also starring Jennifer Holiday is old news to her fans, this is not what the new "major role on Broadway" she stated is...
I thought some of you may have connections and be in the know... Was all... Nice thought anyway...lol
Maybe it's Shelby in Steel Magnolias now there's a part with substance for all you CRITICS....:)

Al Dente...I'm with you 100%. She destroyed Velma Kelly at North Shore. I saw her as the Narrator in Joseph on tour, which was a production not even fit for a high school. How she ever had a career is beyond me. I can see her pop career cause they have equipment to hide that lisp of hers. Elphie with a lisp...actually, it might be worth paying for just to have a great laugh. But I hope the casting team has enough sense...uh...damn, I guess we'll expect to see her in Wicked if the rumors are true. Updated On: 10/11/04 at 10:23 AM
I saw Deborah in GYPSY and she was WONDERFUL. I honestly thought that she hit a home run with that role. I've only heard great things about her in CABARET, so I think she could do Broadway again. Elphaba? A: Does her range go that high? B: I would much rather see Stephanie J. Block in it. and C: They already did Stunt Casting (with Joey McIntyre) and that didnt do so well. Really, the show doesn't need huge stars to keep itself running. I'd love to see Deborah back on Broadway, just not as Elphaba.

And I guess you have nothing better to with your time than talk of someone so lowly?
This lisp you're talking about is UTTER BULLSH*T. I've seen her live several times and there was NO LISP. She's awesome.
Maybe you need to quit worrying about whether she's got talent and go clean the wax out of your ears, and listen to a freaking Barbara Streisand album and get over yourself.

Chris, the lisp has been oft discussed and is a reality, not anyone speaking "lowly" about Gibson. If your "72" refers to you age, don't you think you're a bit "grown" to be feeling so passionate about "Debbie" Gibson at 32? Just a thought and I don't think we've ever seen you before, so, this was obviously an attempt to do just what I said in my first post. Note to Debbie, the producers of Wicked don't get their casting ideas off this board, relax...
i can understand people having differences of opinion, that's part of life. what i don't understand is why some people on this board go out of their way to tear others down. Updated On: 10/11/04 at 12:01 PM
Calm down, Deborah, oops, I mean "Chris"
